TKV’s Vice President Inspects the Progress of the Deep Mining Project at Binh Minh Mine
Recently, Phan Xuan Thuy, Vice President of the Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group (TKV), inspected the progress of the deep mining project at the Binh Minh Mine of the Hon Gai Coal Company – TKV.
The deep mining project at the Binh Minh Mine is one of TKV’s key projects during the period of 2023 – 2027. The project aims to expand the mining space, ensure long-term stable coal production, and improve resource utilization efficiency.
According to the plan, by September 30, 2026, Hon Gai Coal Company will complete a total of 7,325 meters of construction mining tunnels. Specifically, in 2025, the company aims to complete 3,118 meters of tunnel construction, exceeding the plan, and strive to put the lightweight mechanized mine into coal mining operation in the first quarter of 2026.

As of May 2025, the deep mining project at Binh Minh Mine has achieved positive results. The total value realized is estimated at nearly VND 70 billion, equivalent to 25.3% of the yearly plan.
Tunnel excavation reached 1,288.9 meters, equivalent to 110% of the plan, or 41.35% of the yearly plan (3,118 meters), and 49.1% of the total tunnel excavation of the project (7,325 meters).
Along with the tunnel excavation progress, Hon Gai Coal Company is synchronously implementing equipment procurement and installation to meet the technical requirements and construction schedule of the project.
Regarding the investment plan for the first five months of 2025, the company achieved VND 124,568 million, equivalent to 20.8% of the yearly plan. The construction tunnel (Binh Minh Mine project) reached 1,289 meters, equivalent to 41.3% of the yearly plan. The company strives to complete and exceed the investment plan for 2025, as well as the investment, and tunnel construction plan for the Binh Minh Mine project.
Vice President Phan Xuan Thuy emphasized: “The deep mining project at the level of -220 is not just a step to expand the resource space, but also an opportunity to create a “leap forward” in technology, modernize production, and improve working conditions for laborers.”

The deep mining project at the Binh Minh Mine has a designed capacity of 300,000 tons of coal per year, with a total investment of VND 1,100 billion, and is expected to be implemented within four years.
The project has a raw coal reserve of over 9 million tons, to be mined over 21 years , at a depth of -220 to -350 meters. The tunnel system opens up the mining area from the industrial yard level of +25 at the inclined shaft to the level of -350 with a slope of 230, a drilling length of 970 meters, and a cross-sectional area of 13m2. From the level of -220, an underground conveyor belt is drilled down to the level of -350 with a slope of 160 and a cross-sectional area of 16m2, with a length of 540 meters.
At the foot of the auxiliary shaft at the level of -350, a tunnel system, including a tunnel crossing station and upper-middle pairs, is drilled to open up the mining area for two construction tunnels: Tunnel 5.1 and Tunnel 5.2; the total length of the construction tunnels is 7,334 meters.
The project includes two continuous mining tunnels, one mechanized tunnel with a capacity of 300,000 – 350,000 tons/year, and one chain conveyor tunnel with a capacity of 200,000 – 250,000 tons/year.

The project aims to maximize the application of mechanization technologies in tunnel drilling, mining, and coal transportation in underground and surface areas. At the same time, it will utilize automated conveyor belt transportation systems in underground and surface areas.
The application of modern technology, especially mechanized mining tunnels, brings many practical benefits. It not only contributes to improving labor productivity and working conditions for miners but also reduces the demand for direct labor, optimizes coal resource exploitation, ensures environmental friendliness, and aims for sustainable development.
