In Vinamilk’s recently published 2024 Sustainability Report, CEO Mai Kiều Liên emphasized in her opening message: “The time to transform is now, and it’s more than just a slogan. It’s an affirmation that Vinamilk is ready, proactive, and aggressive in embracing green and digital transformation, with a strong focus on sustainable development.” This direction has been translated into concrete actions and tangible results.
In 2024, Vinamilk maintained three carbon-neutral units, including two factories and one farm, while achieving nearly 89% of green energy substitution for fossil fuels in production. All factories nationwide continued to measure greenhouse gas emissions according to the ISO 14064 standard. These are just a few examples of the effective integration of production, energy, and technology, a significant lesson that Vinamilk has learned on its journey towards greener operations, boosting its confidence in achieving its Net Zero pledge by 2050.
On this topic, Mr. Lê Hoàng Minh, Executive Director of Production and Head of Vinamilk’s Net Zero Project, has actively shared insights at various sustainability forums and conferences, emphasizing keywords such as “technology,” “AI,” “energy,” “data,” and “transparency.”

Technology – The Key to Acceleration
When asked about the role of technology in Vinamilk’s green transformation journey, the company representative emphasized their priority on investing in technology across the entire value chain. They view technology as the key to accelerating and strengthening their green transformation efforts.
In factories built over a decade ago, European-standard automated production systems and lines have increased productivity by 10-20% while reducing energy consumption. Smart warehouses with a capacity of 50,000 pallets not only save 70% of operating energy but also optimize space utilization, occupying only 1/6 of the area compared to traditional warehouses.
At the farms, wastewater treatment technology generates biogas for irrigation and organic fertilizer for farming, while methane is utilized for grass drying, water heating, and milk pasteurization, saving hundreds of millions of VND each month – a truly efficient circular economic model.
Embracing the “AI era,” Vinamilk has gradually applied AI in management, accurately forecasting demand, and optimizing production plans. This has led to savings in raw materials, energy, production costs, and increased profitability and competitiveness.
“We have also been applying AI to analyze energy consumption per 1,000 units of products based on packaging size,” shared Mr. Minh. “This initiative has brought benefits by providing more accurate energy consumption data and offering a clearer picture of energy usage in the factory. It enables us to take actions to maintain or improve production processes, reduce unnecessary energy consumption, and increase energy savings.”
Green Energy – The Foundation for Sustainable Transformation
To reduce carbon footprint and work towards Net Zero, energy is a priority for any manufacturing business. Vinamilk has installed solar power systems at all its factories and farms. Additionally, the company utilizes biomass energy from sawdust, bagasse, and other sources, along with compressed natural gas (CNG), as alternatives to fossil fuels, significantly reducing carbon emissions. As a result of this transformation, 89% of energy from fossil fuels at the factories has been replaced by green energy – an impressive achievement in the manufacturing industry.
“These applications help reduce production costs. When costs are saved, it leads to lower prices, higher profits, and improved competitiveness,” Mr. Minh noted. “Saving is the easiest and most effective thing to do. The savings in electricity, packaging, and other areas can be translated into reduced carbon dioxide emissions, accelerating our Net Zero journey.”
Transparency and Efficiency: Going Far and Staying on Course
Vinamilk, a leading company in sustainable development in Vietnam, also emphasizes that transformation is not just about innovation but also about transparency and sustainability. “In addition to energy, technology, and circular economy solutions, it is crucial to build a data foundation to accurately understand our emissions and carbon footprint,” suggested Vinamilk’s representative at a workshop organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (as part of the P4G 2025 Summit). “This will enable us to set a clear path to reduce emissions and achieve sustainability goals transparently and effectively.”
Specifically, Vinamilk is implementing ESG and greenhouse gas management software across its system, enabling timely data retrieval, trend forecasting, and ensuring integrity and security. This is a significant step toward building a clear emissions picture and establishing an efficient and transparent emissions reduction roadmap. The corporate ESG data system also enables Vinamilk to manage sustainability in real time with transparency.
According to the 2024 Sustainability Report (here), 173 types of ESG data have been collected and established at Vinamilk.

Based on practical experience, Vinamilk encourages the application of international standards in sustainable development, such as Global GAP or European Organic standards for farms, ISO50001 for energy management, ISO 14064 for greenhouse gas inventory, PAS2060:2014 carbon neutrality certification, and the future adoption of ISO 14068. This not only ensures that Vinamilk’s sustainable development practices are up to global standards but also sets a positive precedent for the entire industry.
“We at Vinamilk started pursuing green production and sustainable development goals back in the 2010s,” Mr. Minh concluded. “Over the past 15 years, our energy transformation, adoption of new technology solutions, data integration, and adherence to international standards have enabled us to build a unified and sustainable production ecosystem.”

“Why Do Americans and the Japanese Have Better Access to New Medications Than the Vietnamese? FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh Questions the Disparity in Healthcare.”
“In the past decade, 460 new drugs have been introduced globally, yet only 9% of Vietnamese citizens have had access to these innovations, compared to 51% in Japan. This striking disparity prompts the question: how can we ensure that Vietnamese people have access to the same level of healthcare and pharmaceuticals as those in developed countries?”
