On June 12, the Ministry of Industry and Trade announced that Minister Nguyen Hong Dien met with Senator Roger Marshall, representing Kansas and a member of the Republican Party, during his working trip to the United States.

At the meeting, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien conveyed a message from General Secretary To Lam and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to Senator Roger Marshall, affirming Vietnam’s determination to build a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the United States. He also emphasized the country’s desire to promote bilateral economic and trade cooperation for the benefit of both countries’ people and businesses.

Regarding the ongoing negotiations on the Mutual Trade Agreement between the two countries, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien highlighted Vietnam’s willingness to open its market and offer additional concessions for US exports. He requested that the US reciprocate with corresponding steps.

“Vietnam consistently negotiates with the US to strive for a bilateral agreement based on respect for sovereignty, autonomy, political institutions, harmonious and balanced interests, and compatibility with international commitments and each country’s development level,” said Minister Nguyen Hong Dien.

The Minister expressed his hope that Senator Roger Marshall, with his strong political influence within the Republican Party and deep understanding of trade, agriculture, and innovation issues, would voice his support for Vietnam during the negotiation process.

He also wished for the Senator to act as a bridge to promote cooperation between Vietnam and the US, particularly with Kansas, in areas where the state excels, such as agriculture, aviation, and biotechnology.

Senator Roger Marshall appreciated Vietnam’s seriousness, proactive approach, and goodwill in negotiating with the United States.

He assured that he would soon convey his views to the President and relevant Cabinet members in the US administration regarding the negotiation process and looked forward to positive outcomes from both sides.

Moreover, the Senator commended the Minister’s working trip and believed that it would open up numerous cooperation opportunities for both countries in various fields.
