On June 12, the Investigation Police Agency of Thai Binh Province (PC03) issued a decision to prosecute Nguyen Thi Mai (born 1994, residing in Hai Yen ward, Mong Cai city, Quang Ninh province) for “Production and Trading of Counterfeit Food” according to Article 193 of the Penal Code.

Previously, on June 10, the authorities also prosecuted and arrested Dao Van Thanh (born 1986, residing in Tien Tien commune, Hai Duong city, Hai Duong province) for the same offense. Thanh was identified as the mastermind behind the production and distribution of a large quantity of unidentified dry food products in the market.

The investigation commenced on May 27 when a task force from the Economic Police Department of Thai Binh Provincial Police, in collaboration with relevant authorities, inspected a warehouse at Mr. N.T.N’s house in Nguyen Xa commune, Dong Hung district. They seized 650 packages of finished products, including sliced beef jerky, shredded beef jerky, garlic pork, and spicy chicken, none of which had invoices or documents proving their origin. The warehouse owner admitted that all the goods were purchased from Dao Van Thanh.

To prevent the destruction of evidence, the police urgently searched Thanh’s residence, which also served as a production workshop, in Tien Tien commune, Hai Duong city. The investigation agency confiscated 62,199 packages of various dry food products (equivalent to over 3 tons of finished products), 47,500 50g packages (equivalent to over 2 tons of goods when packed), 6 boxes of raw materials, 2 electronic scales, 1 bag sealing machine, and 1 car with license plate 34D-020.54.

During the investigation, Dao Van Thanh confessed that from 2021 to the end of 2022, he had produced dry chicken, beef jerky, and garlic pork products and sold them under the name “Cong Ty Bao Bao”. These products lacked food hygiene and safety certificates and were mainly consumed in Hai Duong and Thai Binh provinces.

Expanding the investigation, the police identified Nguyen Thi Mai as an accomplice, involved in the process of producing and trading counterfeit food with Thanh.

The authorities are completing the necessary procedures to strictly handle the involved individuals according to the law.
