The Police Investigation Agency of Thai Binh Province has decided to initiate criminal proceedings and prosecute Nguyen Thi Mai (DOB: 1994, residing in Hai Yen Ward, Mong Cai City, Quang Ninh Province) and Dao Van Thanh (Xien Tien, Hai Duong City, Hai Duong Province) for the act of “Production and trading of counterfeit food” according to the Criminal Code.

Previously, on May 27, the task force from the Economic Police, in collaboration with relevant authorities, inspected a warehouse at Mr. N.T.N.’s house in Nguyen Xa, Dong Hung District, and confiscated 650 packages of various meat products, including beef jerky blocks and threads, garlic pork, and spicy chicken, none of which had invoices or documents proving their origin.

Mr. N.T.N. stated that he had purchased these products from Dao Van Thanh, a resident of Tien Tien, Hai Duong City, Hai Duong Province.

Subsequently, the authorities conducted an emergency search at Dao Van Thanh’s residence, which also served as a production and goods assembly site.

The police seized two electronic scales, one bag-sealing machine, 62,199 packages of various products (equivalent to over three tons of finished products), 47,500 50-gram packaging bags, six barrels of raw materials, and a car with the license plate number 34D – 020.54.

Case exhibits

During the investigation, Dao Van Thanh confessed that, from 2021 to the end of 2022, while marketing products in the market, he produced and sold spicy chicken, beef jerky, and garlic pork, using the name “Bao Bao Company” to sell to customers in Hai Duong and Thai Binh provinces. Notably, none of Thanh’s products had been certified for food hygiene and safety, posing a significant risk to consumers’ health.

On June 10, the Police Investigation Agency of Thai Binh Province initiated criminal proceedings, prosecuted, and detained Dao Van Thanh to investigate the act of “Production and trading of counterfeit food” according to Article 193 of the Criminal Code.
