**Cybercrime Ring Dismantled in Vietnam: A Cautionary Tale for Cardholders**

Scene of the crime

In a joint operation, the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, in collaboration with the Thanh Binh Ward Police, uncovered a sophisticated cybercrime ring led by T.D.D from Nha Trang and N.Q.K from Da Nang. The group had illegally collected, stored, traded, and used over 21,000 international payment card accounts, including Visa, Mastercard, and Discover, since November 2024.

The leaders of this ring, T.D.D and N.Q.K, rented houses and assembled a team of 15 individuals with IT expertise to carry out their illicit activities. They utilized high-performance electronic devices to exploit security vulnerabilities and develop automated software to harvest international credit card data.

With the stolen information, the group made thousands of unauthorized transactions on Amazon, profiting illegally in the billions of VND. The timely intervention of law enforcement led to the seizure of 15 mobile phones, 2 laptops, 16 CPU units, and 5 computer monitors. The investigation also revealed their modus operandi, which included exploiting security vulnerabilities to develop automated software to harvest international credit card data.

The case has been transferred to the Da Nang Police Investigation Agency for further handling, and cardholders are urged to be vigilant. It serves as a stark reminder to cardholders, especially those with international cards, to be cautious and never disclose their card details on unverified websites. When traveling abroad, it’s crucial to protect your card information during transactions and never leave your card unattended to prevent information theft.
