Recently, at the regular meeting of the People’s Committee of Bac Ninh province in June, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Vuong Quoc Tuan requested that the provincial authorities complete the content to be submitted to the National Assembly for approval of the investment policy for the road connecting Gia Binh airport with the capital city of Hanoi.
According to Tien Phong newspaper, the province is coordinating with the Ministry of Public Security and relevant agencies to report to the Politburo on the policy of investing in Gia Binh airport with the scale of an international “5-star” standard airport, striving to be in the top 10 most beautiful and modern airports in the world.
Previously, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Vuong Quoc Tuan sent a document to report to the Ministry of Public Security, summarizing and reporting to the Government Party Committee and the Prime Minister for consideration and reporting to the Politburo for approval of special mechanisms to speed up the progress of the Gia Binh airport project and the construction of the road connecting Gia Binh airport with the capital city of Hanoi (the section passing through Bac Ninh province)
The proposed road connecting Gia Binh airport to the capital city of Hanoi and Kênh Và ng bridge to Hai Duong province has a total length of about 31.6 km in Bac Ninh province, with a road cross-section of 120 m, including a section from Gia Binh airport to Hanoi about 22.9 km long. The section from Gia Binh airport to Kenh Vang bridge, to Hai Duong province is about 8.7 km long.
The cost estimate for the section passing through Bac Ninh province is about VND 40,300 billion. To complete the international airport and the connecting road by 2026 as directed, the Provincial People’s Committee also proposed that the Prime Minister approve a number of special policies and mechanisms for the implementation of the road project connecting Gia Binh airport with Hanoi.
The Gia Binh airport project is expected to break ground in December 2024 in Xuan Lai and Gia Binh town, Gia Binh district, Bac Ninh province. According to the new master plan approved by the Ministry of Construction, in the period of 2021-2030, Gia Binh International Airport will reach level 4E, with a capacity of about one million passengers and 250,000 tons of cargo per year.

By 2050, the airport will maintain its 4E status and increase its capacity to about 3 million passengers and 1 million tons of cargo per year. The airport is planned on an area of over 363 hectares, including about 246 hectares of land for bay area facilities, 85 hectares for civil aviation, and 31 hectares for barracks. The total investment for the Gia Binh airport project is estimated at VND 31,300 billion.
At the end of February this year, the Government Office announced the conclusion of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the meeting on investing in the construction of the road connecting Gia Binh airport, Bac Ninh province with Hanoi and building a logistics center in the area of Gia Binh airport.
The announcement stated that in order to reduce the burden on Noi Bai airport, meet development requirements, and ensure the operation of special flights serving the leaders of the Party, State, and international relations, it is necessary to build an additional dual-use airport combining security and national defense with socio-economic development.
The construction of the first phase of the Gia Binh airport project has been inaugurated. However, to avoid waste and save time, effort, and resources, it is necessary to plan to expand it immediately into an international airport with a 4E standard. Consider investing in the construction of a road connecting Gia Binh airport with Hanoi and building a modern and intelligent logistics center, combining e-commerce.
Regarding some contents related to the implementation of the project, General Secretary To Lam agreed with the policy. The Prime Minister requested that the ministries, agencies, and localities promptly implement them. In case there is a need for special mechanisms, they should promptly report to competent authorities for consideration and decision.
The Prime Minister agreed in principle with the policy of studying the expansion of Gia Binh airport into an international airport with a 4E standard, investing in the construction of a road connecting Gia Binh airport, Bac Ninh province with Hanoi, and building a logistics center. The ministries, agencies, and localities concerned actively coordinate closely in the implementation, speeding up the preparation and implementation, and striving to complete the international airport and the connecting road by 2026.
