Prime Minister Approves Master Plan for Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone
On June 17, the People’s Committee of Gia Lai province announced that the Prime Minister had signed a decision approving the master plan for the construction of the Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone until 2045. This is a strategic breakthrough for the development of the western border area of Gia Lai, aiming to transform Le Thanh into a comprehensive, multi-sector, and multi-field economic zone, a center for services, logistics, and international trade, and a driving force for the development of the Central Highlands region.
The planning covers Chư Ty town and Ia Kla, Ia Dom, Ia Nan, and Ia Pnôn communes of Đức Cơ district, Gia Lai province, with a total area of approximately 415.15 km2. By 2045, the population of this area is expected to reach approximately 75,000 people, with an urban population of 41,000; the total construction land area is estimated at 3,279 hectares.

Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone will become a comprehensive economic zone and a driving force for the development of the Central Highlands region
By 2045, the spatial development orientation will include: Subdivision 1 – Le Thanh Border Gate urban area, which will serve as a comprehensive economic and international trade and commerce center. Subdivision 2 (Chư Ty town) will be the district center, playing a central role in administration, politics, economics, culture, and trade services for Đức Cơ district. It holds significant importance for the national defense and security of Gia Lai province and the Central Highlands region as a whole.
This urban area will also serve as a connecting hub to the Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone, a vital transshipment point for goods and tourists along the East-West corridor between Vietnam and Cambodia. This subdivision will provide logistics services for border gate activities and act as a link for tourism to the border districts of the province and an accommodation hub for international tourists entering through the Le Thanh International Border Gate.
Additionally, there will be a rural residential subdivision focused on agricultural development, community tourism, and local cultural experiences.
The master plan also outlines the synchronized development of infrastructure in transportation, irrigation, electricity, telecommunications, education, healthcare, and culture, aiming for sustainable development while protecting natural resources and the environment and ensuring national defense and border security.
The approval of the Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone plan will boost socio-economic development, narrow development gaps, and affirm national sovereignty in the western border area of Gia Lai province.
