Failure to act would be a disservice to the people
During the questioning session with Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh on the morning of June 20, delegate Luong Van Hung of Quang Ngai province raised the issue of environmental pollution, air pollution, and water pollution in urban areas, stating that it is ” becoming increasingly serious.” Mr. Hung questioned the Deputy Prime Minister about comprehensive solutions to this problem.
Ho Guom (Hanoi) area will have an expanded recreational space.
In response, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh emphasized that urban pollution is a significant issue. If we do not take action, we will be doing a disservice to the people, not only in the cities but also in other areas, with the immediate focus on major cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
“We have accomplished a lot in the past. We have modernized garbage collection and treatment, turning waste into electricity, as seen in Hanoi. We have relocated production facilities away from the city. We have also addressed pollution in the city’s rivers and lakes,” Mr. Binh stated, citing the example of To Lich River in Hanoi, where significant resources have been invested.
Additionally, we have initiated a plan to move densely populated facilities, such as universities, out of the city center. We are also increasing the number of green spaces and cultural areas in the center. For instance, the area around Ho Guom (Hanoi) will soon feature an expansive recreational space, free from crowded constructions.
Implementing a long-term, fundamental plan
In the long term, the Government, under the direction of the Politburo, is developing a plan to address air and water pollution. This issue is being actively addressed and will be reported to the Politburo.
Moreover, Mr. Binh emphasized the need to consider urban transportation. Promoting green transportation involves increasing restrictions on private vehicles and enhancing the convenience of public transportation.
“This is a long-term, fundamental plan involving multiple solutions and the use of modern tools to observe, analyze, and assess the environment with AI for early warning to the people. However, warnings are not enough; we must ensure that our people breathe clean air ,” Mr. Binh emphasized the government’s determination.
This plan will require substantial resources and will likely face opposition, especially if it involves policies affecting private vehicles. The Deputy Prime Minister sought support from voters and National Assembly delegates for this community-oriented initiative.
