As part of the bilateral negotiations on the Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the United States, Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien held talks with US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer simultaneously via an online format at 9:00 PM on June 19, 2025 (Vietnam time).

The talks were conducted in an open, good-faith, and constructive atmosphere. The ministers discussed solutions and orientations to address the main existing issues in the negotiations between the two countries.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien welcomed the proposals made by Secretary Lutnick and Trade Representative Greer to advance the negotiation process.

The Minister continued to request that the US consider areas of interest to Vietnam, including countervailing duty policies and market access for some of Vietnam’s key export commodities.

In addition, the Minister emphasized Vietnam’s perspective on the desire to work with the US to develop harmonious, practical, and supply chain-specific rules of origin, ensuring non-discrimination and facilitating businesses from both countries.

Secretary Lutnick and Trade Representative Greer appreciated Vietnam’s efforts and goodwill in addressing US concerns, stating that these would enable the US to consider countervailing duty policies suitable for Vietnam’s specific conditions and circumstances.

Both Secretary Lutnick and Trade Representative Greer affirmed the US’s desire and determination to negotiate with Vietnam towards an agreement that aligns with the interests of both nations.

Trade Representative Greer mentioned that the US Trade Representative (USTR) would soon finalize and send Vietnam the necessary documents so that the two sides could focus on discussions leading to an outcome that benefits both Vietnam and the United States.
