The Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project comprises two plants, each designed with two reactors. Specifically, Ninh Thuan 1 Nuclear Power Plant is located in Phuoc Dinh, Thuan Nam district, while Ninh Thuan 2 Nuclear Power Plant is located in Vinh Hai, Ninh Hai district.
EVN is the investor of Ninh Thuan 1 Nuclear Power Project, while PVN is in charge of the Ninh Thuan 2 Nuclear Power Project.
As Vietnam’s first nuclear power plants, they are subject to stringent safety requirements due to the novelty of the field.

A few days ago, the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom proposed its prominent VVER-1200 reactor line for a large-scale nuclear power plant project in Vietnam.
The VVER-1200 (Voda Voda Energo Reactor-1200) is a water-cooled, water-moderated energy reactor with a capacity of 1,200 MW, belonging to the Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) family, the most common type in the West.
With a series of active and passive safety systems complying with post-Fukushima requirements, the Russian VVER-1200 reactor meets all safety standards and criteria of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Currently, the VVER-1200 is in operation in four countries: Russia (2 reactors), China (2 reactors), Bangladesh (1 reactor), and Belarus (1 reactor).
Why Develop Nuclear Power?
Nuclear power is a strategic solution for Vietnam to ensure energy security, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and enhance the country’s standing in the international arena. Vietnam is developing nuclear power for peaceful purposes, ensuring national energy security, and promoting sustainable development, in line with the net-zero emission target by 2050.

According to experts, the project will be a significant boost for Ninh Thuan, as investment in infrastructure and technology will pave the way for the province to become a clean energy hub, attracting domestic and foreign investors.
The project will not only increase budget revenues but also create thousands of high-quality jobs while enhancing the local workforce’s expertise through specialized nuclear technology training programs.
Additionally, the project’s implementation will foster the vigorous development of supporting industries such as construction materials and mechanical engineering.
Through international cooperation and technology transfer, Vietnam has the opportunity to rapidly enhance its research and production capabilities in the field of atomic energy, laying a solid foundation for sustainable science and technology development in the long term.
