In late 2022, the Lien Chieu Port construction project, including shared infrastructure, was inaugurated with a total investment of over VND 3,400 billion.

Lien Chieu Port is located at the foot of Hai Van Pass, in Hoa Hiep Bac Ward, Lien Chieu District, Da Nang City. Its southern boundary is Cu De River, and it overlooks Da Nang Bay to the east.

Lien Chieu is one of Vietnam’s three key deep-water ports and is planned to become a special port. It can accommodate general cargo and bulk carriers of up to 100,000 tons, as well as container ships ranging from 6,000 to 8,000 TEU.

Lien Chieu Port includes the construction of breakwaters with a total length of 1,170 meters, as well as ship channels and water areas. It also features a six-lane, 30-meter-wide access road leading to the port gate and synchronized technical infrastructure for electricity and water supply, along with auxiliary works up to the port’s gate area.

The project is divided into two components: Component A, which includes shared infrastructure funded by the government, and Component B, which includes container terminals that will be developed by domestic and foreign investors through public-private partnerships.

According to the Da Nang Priority Infrastructure Investment Projects Management Board (the investor), the Lien Chieu Port construction project has reached 85.6% of its value in terms of volume. The access road to the port gate, with a scale of six lanes and a width of 30 meters, has been synchronized and is awaiting asphalt paving.

Construction is nearing completion on the 1- to 3-ton rock armor protecting the main road foundation. The photo shows the progress of the 1,170-meter-long breakwater and seawall.

Lien Chieu Port is envisioned as an international gateway port, attracting major shipping and logistics companies. It is designed to accommodate large vessels and facilitate container transshipment with other global ports, enhancing Da Nang’s connectivity.

The port’s operation will reduce congestion at Tien Sa Port and ease road traffic through Da Nang’s inner city. It will also enhance regional connectivity, contributing to the sustainable socioeconomic development of Da Nang and the surrounding region.
