At the ceremony, Ms. Mai Thu Van, Deputy Head of the Government Office, announced Decision No. 1142/QD-TTg dated June 13, 2025, of the Prime Minister. Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh then handed over the decision to Danang’s leaders, marking a significant turning point in the city and region’s development strategy.
The Danang Free Trade Area covers a total area of approximately 1,881 hectares, distributed in multiple non-adjacent locations. This area is planned according to a modern model, integrating multiple functions, including production, logistics, trade and services, digital industry, information technology, innovation, and other appropriate forms in accordance with the law.
The new model aims to develop Danang into a strategic growth pole for Central Vietnam and the entire country. The Free Trade Area will serve as a crucial link in the global supply chain, connecting Lien Chieu Port, Danang International Airport, the East-West Economic Corridor, and the Asia-Pacific market. It also lays the foundation for the development of high-tech industries, international finance, innovation, and digital transformation.
Mr. Le Trung Chinh, Chairman of Danang People’s Committee, emphasized that this new institutional model is a breakthrough, expected to lead green growth, attract strategic investments, and create an internationally competitive development space. The city has been preparing plans to implement the next steps to ensure the efficient operation of this trade area.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh commended Danang’s efforts in realizing the Party and State’s guidelines. He emphasized that the country’s first free trade area is the city’s initiative, demonstrating its far-sighted vision and strong determination. The Government expects this area to be a global economic connector, providing a boost not only for Danang but also for the region and the nation.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, in addition to the Free Trade Area, the Central Government has also assigned Danang with other strategic tasks, such as developing an international financial center, a deep-water port, and special economic islands. With the recent merger with Quang Nam province as per the National Assembly’s new resolution, Danang will expand its development space and have additional opportunities to connect with large economic zones like Chu Lai and Dung Quat, thus enhancing regional linkage and investment efficiency.
At the ceremony, Danang’s leaders also signed memorandums of understanding for the development of the Free Trade Area with strategic investors, including Terne Holdings, The One Destination, BRG, IPPG, Newtechco Group, and Saigon Danang Investment Joint Stock Company. These commitments not only showcase investors’ interest but also mark the first steps toward realizing the goal of building a modern, integrated, and internationally competitive trade area.
