The Galaxy S25 Series marks a significant milestone in this journey, reflecting Samsung’s translation of environmental commitments into concrete actions.

The Galaxy S25 Series introduces Samsung’s first application of “design for recyclability” across the entire device structure. Every component in the Galaxy S25 and S25+ contains at least one recycled material, from the circuit board to the camera module, vibration motor, speakers, and device frame.

The Galaxy S25’s frame is crafted from recycled aluminum in an Armor Aluminum construction, ensuring durability while reducing reliance on virgin materials. Other components, such as magnets and mechanical parts, utilize recycled rare earth materials like neodymium and recycled steel. Packaging has also eliminated single-use plastics, opting for 100% recycled paper – a small detail that makes a significant difference in shifting consumer habits.

Notably, the Galaxy S25 is Samsung’s first device to incorporate recycled cobalt into its batteries – a component with a typically high environmental impact in supply chains. Samsung has announced that at least 25% of the battery mass is cobalt, half of which comes from recycled sources recovered from old Galaxy devices and faulty batteries during production. This is made possible through the Circular Battery Supply Chain that Samsung has implemented with partners, reducing reliance on rare mineral extraction and significantly cutting emissions over the device’s entire lifespan.

Extending Device Lifespan with Long-Term Software Update Policies

Samsung promotes sustainability not just through materials and design but also through software policies. With the Galaxy S25 Series, the company commits to seven years of operating system and security updates – one of the longest support periods in the mobile industry today.

This policy prolongs the device’s useful life, reducing the frequent need for replacements. It directly contributes to cutting global e-waste and maintains long-term security, enhancing the product’s sustainability in both hardware and software.

Galaxy S25 Series Receives Prestigious Environmental Award

Samsung’s sustainability advancements with the Galaxy S25 have been recognized with the Design for Recycling Award by the Recycling Materials Association (ReMA). ReMA applauds Samsung’s implementation of recyclable design principles at every product development stage, from integrating diverse recycled materials to establishing a closed-loop supply chain.

“Samsung has shown true leadership by applying recyclable design principles at every stage of the Galaxy S25’s development,” says Robin Wiener, President of the Recycling Materials Association (ReMA). “The use of multiple recycled materials demonstrates a clear commitment to designing the products we use every day with both innovation and environmental responsibility.”
