During the Danang City People’s Council meeting on the afternoon of June 23rd, Ms. Le Thi Kim Phuong, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, provided information on the city’s efforts in combating smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and intellectual property rights infringements.
Ms. Phuong shared that inspections have been rigorously conducted in key streets, Han Market, Con Market, and the city’s tourist center. Notably, during these inspections, some stores unexpectedly closed their doors or had no goods available for sale.
“Some businesses showed signs of wariness towards the authorities and chose to suspend their operations, leaving their shelves empty,” Ms. Phuong said, adding that this indicated the initial deterrent effect of the campaign.

Ms. Le Thi Kim Phuong, Director of Danang City’s Department of Industry and Trade, speaks at the People’s Council meeting on June 23rd.
Following the Prime Minister’s continuous directives in May and June, the Danang People’s Committee launched Plan 139/KH-UBND to intensify inspections and handle commercial violations.
From May 15th to June 15th, the city’s Market Management Bureau inspected 147 cases and handled 98 violations. This included 3 cases of smuggled goods, 59 cases of trade fraud, and 36 cases of intellectual property rights infringements. The total value of fines and confiscated goods sold amounted to nearly VND 1.6 billion. Additionally, nearly 2,600 units of violating products, mainly clothing, shoes, cosmetics, food, and phone accessories, worth over VND 1 billion, were temporarily seized and destroyed.

Many shops along the tourist street of Han Market in Danang have closed down.
In the first six months of the year, the Market Management force inspected 390 cases and handled 249 violations, with fines and confiscated goods sold totaling more than VND 2.8 billion. Nearly 7,000 violating products were also destroyed.
Ms. Le Thi Kim Phuong affirmed that in the coming time, the Department of Industry and Trade will continue to direct the Market Management Bureau to tighten inspections, especially for functional foods, pharmaceuticals, milk, and consumer goods that may affect people’s health.
Furthermore, the city will hold accountable the heads of units for their management of the area and will strictly handle cases of negligence that allow the sale of counterfeit and unidentified goods.
Efforts will also be made to enhance communication and guidance for businesses to comply with legal regulations, fostering a healthy market and protecting consumer rights.
NLD previously reported that recently, along the central streets of Tran Phu and Hung Vuong in Danang, which are usually bustling with Korean tourists, there has been a noticeable closure of fashion and bag shops, resulting in an unprecedentedly quiet atmosphere in one of the city’s famous shopping destinations.
According to observations, from the intersection of Hung Vuong and Tran Phu to the Han Market area, more than a dozen stores selling fashion, accessories, and bags have temporarily ceased operations. Many stores are closed without any explanation, and some have even had their water supply cut off due to non-payment.
