In a recent development, authorities have uncovered a large-scale cannabis distribution network, with 26 arrests made and a key suspect, Nguyen Phi Co (born 1995, residing in District 6, Ho Chi Minh City), identified as the mastermind. By leveraging social media and electronic payment platforms, Co orchestrated a sophisticated operation, utilizing virtual currency and a variety of transportation methods, including mail, air freight, and vehicle deliveries, to distribute cannabis across Vietnam.

A multi-month investigation, spanning from June 2024 to March 2025, culminated in a series of raids, yielding significant seizures. These included 146 kg of cannabis, approximately 7.5 billion VND in cash, two vehicles, and other incriminating evidence. The network’s total cannabis trade is estimated to reach 600 kg, with the primary source originating from Southeast Asian countries, smuggled through Cambodia and Laos, and ultimately entering Vietnam.

The modus operandi of the group was intricate, involving social media transactions, electronic wallet and cryptocurrency payments, and clever disguises for prohibited items. They concealed the contraband in mail parcels, luggage, and household items. Some shipments were even sent via air freight from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, only to be further distributed across northern provinces.
The case remains open as authorities continue their investigations, aiming to uncover the full extent of the network, trace drug suppliers, and bring all involved to justice.
