A few days ago, the first batch of VinFast electric vehicles arrived at the port of Kochi, Kerala, India, and
were transported to the brand’s first dealership in the state. According to Cartoq, the models on display
at the dealership are believed to be the VF 6 and VF 7, imported from Vietnam.
Interestingly, these vehicles are left-hand drive (LHD), while India follows the right-hand drive (RHD) standard,
with the steering wheel on the right side.

India may be produced at the upcoming VinFast India factory.
This strategic move allows customers to physically experience the VinFast models, evaluating their design, features,
and build quality before the official launch of the right-hand drive versions, which will be manufactured locally in
India.
At the Bharat Mobility Expo in India back in January 2025, VinFast also displayed left-hand drive models. This event
marked the brand’s introduction of its first vehicles to the world’s largest market.

Indian customers will be produced at this factory rather than imported from Vietnam.
According to information released, the VinFast India factory is located in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, spanning an area
of 160 hectares. Once completed, the factory is expected to have an initial capacity of 50,000 units per year, with
plans to expand to 150,000 units annually.

VinFast intends to produce 2 to 3 new models each year in India, catering to both the domestic and export markets. The
initial investment is estimated at $500 million over five years, with plans to expand up to $2 billion. The factory is
expected to generate approximately 3,000–3,500 local jobs.
Additionally, VinFast chose Tamil Nadu as the ideal location due to its status as the automotive hub of India, along
with its advantageous port, airport, and abundant workforce. VinFast has also received strong support from the state
government, including the Chief Minister and the local Industry Minister.

According to Mr. Pham Sanh Chau, VinFast’s General Director for Asia, the company is not just selling cars but is
implementing a comprehensive strategy: developing a network of dealerships, after-sales service centers, and
maintenance workshops (including third-party partners), establishing charging stations, introducing electric taxis, and
offering electric car rental services under the “Green Future” model. This holistic approach is aimed at encouraging
Indian consumers to embrace electric vehicle services.
Mr. Pham Sanh Chau also shared that, alongside VinFast, several other Vingroup companies and services will be
introduced in India, including Vinpearl (resort services), Vinmec (healthcare), and Vinschool (education).
VinFast is expected to announce its pricing strategy for the Indian market soon, with plans to deliver vehicles
before the festive season at the end of 2025, a period of high vehicle demand. The inauguration of the factory is
anticipated to be graced by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and possibly the Prime Minister of India.
