Hundreds Queue for Hours to Secure a Chance at Affordable Housing in Da Nang’s Prime Location

On the morning of June 30, hundreds of people were seen queuing in an orderly manner within the premises of the investment enterprise of the low-income housing project in An Trung 2 Residential Area (Son Tra district, Da Nang city). They patiently waited for their turn to draw lots and submit applications for social housing. Photo: Giang Thanh

According to many citizens, they had been queuing since the afternoon of June 29, enduring the long wait to ensure they didn’t miss the opportunity to apply for the social housing project in this prime location. At one point, the situation became chaotic, and the investor had to temporarily halt the queue to restore order. Photo: Giang Thanh

By 9 am, the queue grew longer, stretching out to Ong Ich Khiem Street. Traffic police and local authorities were present to manage traffic flow and maintain security and order.

Due to the large number of applicants, the investor had to issue queue numbers. Those who brought their application forms were given a number with the main applicant’s name and the appointment date for submission. Photo: Giang Thanh

Ms. T.T.D.M, from Thanh Khe district, shared that she had been queuing since noon on June 29 and stayed through the night to submit her application, even though the Da Nang Department of Construction announced that the project would start receiving applications from June 30.

“We endured the long wait and even had to queue again from the beginning due to the initial chaos. My queue number is almost 400, and I’m worried that those who submitted their applications earlier will be prioritized, rendering my efforts wasted,” Ms. M expressed her concern.

It was past 9 am when Ms. N.T.T.P, a resident of Son Tra district, finally joined the queue, finding herself near the end. Seeing the long line, she sighed, unsure when her turn would come. “This queue is just to draw a lot for the appointment date to submit the application. I wonder if we’ll have to go through the same process on the submission date,” she said.

The low-income housing project in An Trung 2 Residential Area is located in a prime location in Son Tra district, between the Dragon Bridge and Tran Thi Ly Bridge. This project is considered the most sought-after social housing in Da Nang, as evident by the rush of people to the investor’s office to inquire about procedures and application forms. As a result, the investor had to switch from direct guidance to QR code-based form distribution.

The project comprises three high-rise apartment buildings with a total of 957 apartments: Block A with 18 floors, Block B with 15 floors, and Block C with 12 floors. In this phase, 633 apartments are being released to the market, including 288 units in Block A and 345 units in Block B.

The selling price of the apartments is announced at over VND 16.2 million/m2, excluding taxes, fees, and other related charges as stipulated by law. The period for receiving applications for social housing, as announced by the Department of Construction, is from June 30 to July 22.
