On June 28th, the Secretaries of the Da Nang City Party Committee and the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee co-chaired a conference to gather opinions on the draft political report to be presented at the 23rd Congress of the Da Nang City Party Committee for the term 2025-2030.

At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Van Quang, Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee, affirmed that the city will orient its development towards the east and west, promoting investment in localities such as Thang Binh, Duy Xuyen, and Nui Thanh. At the same time, the Chu Lai open economic zone, linked to Chu Lai airport and seaport, will be boosted.

“We have agreed on a policy to shorten the distance between Chu Lai and Da Nang airports. We will immediately implement a very specific project, which is the urban railway project, connecting Chu Lai and Da Nang airports with Da Nang’s own resources,” emphasized Mr. Quang.

According to the National Assembly resolution, Quang Nam and Da Nang will merge, effective July 1, 2025, and the merged entity will be named Da Nang City. Thus, Chu Lai and Da Nang airports will be under the same administration after this date.

For this project, Da Nang will seek approval from the National Assembly and the Government to build an urban railway with a speed of 160km/h. The first phase of the project is determined to be completed within this term, connecting Da Nang airport to Hoi An.

The Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee also directed the development of a new urban axis along the Truong Giang River.

“Da Nang used to develop its urban area along the Han River. Now, we will orient our planning along the Truong Giang River. This policy has also been evaluated by international consultants,” shared Mr. Quang.

Earlier this year, the leaders of Quang Nam Province stated that they had worked with central ministries and departments on the Chu Lai airport project. Accordingly, the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Construction strongly supported Quang Nam Province in implementing this project. The concerned parties have worked together to clearly define the area managed by the defense sector and the area handed over to the management of Quang Nam Province.

Specifically, Mr. Le Van Dung, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quang Nam Province, mentioned that many investors are interested in researching and investing in Chu Lai airport, such as the SOVICO Group in collaboration with the ADANI Group (India). Chu Lai airport is planned to be one of the three largest airports in the country, following Long Thanh and Noi Bai airports, with a 4F standard.
