On April 30, 2025, Thailand’s Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD) collaborated with the Intellectual Property Department under the Ministry of Commerce to launch a crackdown on counterfeit goods in four northeastern provinces: Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, and Sakon Nakhon. This operation was conducted as part of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two agencies on joint efforts to combat intellectual property rights infringements.
Led by Major General Thatsaphon Charuprat of the ECD, authorities, along with brand protection representatives, raided six business locations across the aforementioned provinces. These sites, including commercial buildings, wholesale and retail markets, and online and physical stores, were identified as potentially engaging in large-scale counterfeiting activities.

During the inspections, five suspects were apprehended, with preliminary information as follows:
Mr. Pan (alias), 42, was arrested in Tambon Bua Yai, Bua Yai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province.
Ms. Ni (alias), 36, was taken into custody in Nong Phai Subdistrict, Chum Phae District, Khon Kaen Province.
Mr. Yim (alias), 40, was detained in Ban Phai Subdistrict, Ban Phai District, Khon Kaen Province.
Ms. Pha (alias), 29, was apprehended in Chiang Yuen Subdistrict, Mueang Udon Thani District, Udon Thani Province.
Mr. Wan (alias), 32, was arrested in Pang Khon Subdistrict, Pang Khon District, Sakon Nakhon Province.
The accused are charged with violating the Trademark Act of 1991 by “offering or selling goods bearing counterfeit registered trademarks in the Kingdom.”
Authorities seized a total of 1,785 infringing items, estimated to cause over 2 million baht in damages. The confiscated goods included a range of counterfeit products mimicking popular brands: consumer goods, auto parts, audio equipment, clothing, handbags, and footwear. These items were found to be of substandard quality and unsafe for consumers.
The evidence and suspects have been handed over to the local police stations for further legal proceedings, demonstrating the Thai government’s commitment to protecting intellectual property rights and fostering a fair and transparent business environment for domestic and international enterprises.
