On June 28th, the Secretaries of the Da Nang City Party Committee and the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee co-chaired a conference to gather opinions on the draft political report to be presented at the 23rd Congress of the Da Nang City Party Organization for the term 2025-2030.

At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Van Quang, Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee, affirmed that the city would orient its development towards the east and the west, promoting investment in localities such as Thang Binh, Duy Xuyen, and Nui Thanh. Simultaneously, the city aims to boost the Chu Lai open economic zone, linking it with Chu Lai airport and seaport.

“We have agreed on a strategy to shorten the distance between Chu Lai and Da Nang airports. We will immediately implement a very specific project, the urban railway project, connecting Chu Lai and Da Nang airports with Da Nang’s internal resources,” Mr. Quang emphasized.

According to the National Assembly resolution, Quang Nam and Da Nang will merge, effective July 1, 2025, and the merged entity will be named Da Nang City. As a result, Chu Lai and Da Nang airports will be under the same administration after this date.

For this project, Da Nang will seek approval from the National Assembly and the Government to construct an urban railway with a speed of 160km/h. The first phase of the project is determined to be completed within this term, connecting Da Nang airport to Hoi An.

The Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee also directed the development of a new urban axis along the Truong Giang River.

“Da Nang previously developed its urban area along the Han River. Moving forward, we will orient our planning and development along the Truong Giang River. This orientation has also been assessed by international consultants,” shared Mr. Quang.

Earlier this year, the leaders of Quang Nam Province stated that they had worked with central ministries and departments on the Chu Lai airport project. Accordingly, the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Construction strongly supported Quang Nam Province in implementing this project. The concerned parties have delineated the area managed by the defense sector and the area handed over to Quang Nam Province for management.

Specifically, Mr. Le Van Dung, Chairman of the Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee, mentioned that many investors are interested in researching and investing in Chu Lai airport, such as the SOVICO Group in collaboration with the ADANI Group (India). Chu Lai airport is planned to be one of the country’s three largest airports, following Long Thanh and Noi Bai, with a 4F standard.
