VinFast’s 5 Global Manufacturing Hubs
Since breaking ground on its first facility in Haiphong in 2017, VinFast has established a network of factories in strategic locations to streamline its supply chain and better serve local markets.
The expansion of these factories seems to revolve around three key objectives: rapidly increasing total capacity, getting closer to consumers in key markets, and leveraging domestic policy incentives.
# | Factory | Location | Area (ha) | Capacity (units/year) | Investment | Purpose/Goal |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | VinFast Haiphong | Haiphong, Vietnam | 335 | 950,000 (2026 target) | $6 billion (as of Q1 2021) | Global production pillar, diverse product range (cars, buses, electric motorbikes, electric bicycles) |
2 | VinFast Ha Tinh | Ha Tinh, Vietnam | 36 |
200,000 (2025) 400,000 (2027) |
Nearly $240 million | Small electric vehicle production, serving domestic and export markets |
3 | VinFast USA | North Carolina, USA | 800 | 150,000 | Up to $2 billion | Serving the North American market, reducing import taxes and fees |
4 | VinFast India | Tamil Nadu, India | 160 | 150,000 | $2 billion (committed) | Entering the world’s third-largest electric vehicle market, with plans to penetrate neighboring markets |
5 | VinFast Indonesia | West Java, Indonesia | 127 | 50,000 | $200 million (initial investment) | Producing right-hand-drive vehicles for ASEAN, optimizing intra-bloc incentives |
VinFast has established a total of five factories worldwide with specific goals. Among these, the Haiphong and Ha Tinh factories are already operational, and the facilities in India and Indonesia are in the final stages of preparation for inauguration.
Global Production “Backbone”
1. VinFast Haiphong – The Production “Backbone”
The VinFast Haiphong factory was built in just 21 months and is located on a 335-hectare site next to a port, facilitating exports.
The factory is equipped with all the necessary workshops for the production of cars and two-wheelers of various types, including stamping, painting, assembly, engine, and interior workshops.

With up to 90% automation (depending on the workshop), the factory aims for a capacity of 950,000 units per year by 2026, nearly five times the initial capacity of 200,000 units. This number is particularly impressive when considering that the total car sales in Vietnam in 2024 were approximately 494,300 units.
Currently, the VinFast Haiphong factory plays a central role, supplying vehicles to both the domestic and export markets, including the demanding markets of the US and Europe.
2. VinFast Ha Tinh – Focusing on Compact Models
The VinFast Ha Tinh factory is the second operational facility after the one in Haiphong. It was officially inaugurated on June 29.

In its initial phase, the factory has a design capacity of 200,000 units per year. It is planned to focus on producing small electric vehicle models such as the VF 3, Minio Green, and EC Van.
3. VinFast USA – Gateway to North America
Located in Triangle Innovation Point, North Carolina, on a site of approximately 800 hectares, the VinFast USA factory has a total investment of up to $2 billion in phase 1. With an initial capacity of 150,000 units per year, it will produce the flagship SUV models VF 8 and VF 9.

In addition to producing mainstream models, the factory is expected to manufacture electric buses and batteries for electric vehicles. Similar to the Haiphong factory, VinFast also plans to allocate a portion of the site to suppliers.
The construction of the VinFast USA factory coincides with the company’s expansion into new markets. The US and Europe have very stringent product standards, and the fact that VinFast vehicles are approved for import into these markets is a testament to their quality.
4. VinFast India – Gateway to India
According to forecasts from reputable market research units, India is expected to become one of the world’s largest electric vehicle markets, with a projected consumption of 10 million electric vehicles per year by 2030. This is considered a significant factor in VinFast’s decision to invest up to $500 million in building a factory in India.

VinFast VF 6 and VF 7 are the first models to be sold in India, featuring adjustments to meet local consumer needs.
With a capacity of 150,000 units per year, the VinFast India factory will produce vehicles for the domestic market and export to neighboring markets, including the Middle East.
Following the Ha Tinh factory, the VinFast India factory is also expected to be inaugurated soon. To date, several VinFast models have been spotted undergoing testing in India, including the VF e34, VF 8, and the duo VF 6 and VF 7, which will be the first models launched in the market.
5. VinFast Indonesia – Entering Southeast Asia
The VinFast Indonesia factory is also expected to be inaugurated shortly. It is designed to produce right-hand-drive vehicles for the Indonesian market, including the VF 3, VF 5, VF 6, and VF 7 models.

Indonesia is currently the largest automotive market in Southeast Asia. In 2024, it consumed 865,723 vehicles, nearly twice the number in Vietnam. The Indonesian government has set a target of 2 million electric vehicles on the road by 2030, while the number of electric vehicles in the country as of 2024 was only about 195,000.
These facts have made Indonesia an attractive market for electric vehicle manufacturers, including VinFast.
