Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) has recently issued a warning about a new scam targeting customers in the wake of local government reorganizations and boundary adjustments. EVN warns that malicious individuals are impersonating utility company employees and attempting to gain access to customers’ personal information, ultimately aiming to defraud them.

The most common scam involves impersonating EVN staff and calling customers, claiming that due to the company’s structural changes, customers need to update their payment information by accessing a provided link. This is a ruse to gain access to personal and financial details, with scammers asking customers to send messages, install unfamiliar applications, or engage in video calls for supposed guidance, all in an attempt to steal sensitive data.

EVN advises customers to be vigilant against online scams.

To protect yourself from such scams, EVN and its subsidiaries advise the following: EVN and its electricity units will never ask customers to provide personal information or access unfamiliar links. Therefore, customers should never disclose account details, passwords, or OTP codes to unidentified individuals.

If you receive a suspicious call or message, immediately contact the Customer Care Center of your regional Power Corporation or report it to the nearest police station for verification. EVN and its units urge customers and the public to be vigilant and cautious to avoid falling victim to these malicious schemes.
