On July 1st, the Investigative Police Agency of Ho Chi Minh City is investigating a case of “production and trading of counterfeit drugs” involving Vo Thanh Tam (director of Thanh Thuy Cosmetics Co., Ltd.) and his wife, Ngo Anh Hong (director of My Trinh Cosmetics Co., Ltd.) and their accomplices.

At 9:55 am on June 21st, during an inspection of the two companies (located in Xuan Thoi Thuong, Hoc Mon district), the task force discovered 15 employees engaging in the production and storage of various types of counterfeit ointments and balms of foreign origin, including Eagle Brand Medicated Oil, Thai moisturizing cream, Thai tiger balm, and Korean roller oil. These products were not among the registered items for production and trading by the two companies.

During the interrogation by the task force, Tam, Hong, and the employees provided evasive answers and denied the allegations. However, through skilled investigative methods and collected evidence, the task force compelled the couple to admit to their involvement in counterfeiting these products for sale in the market to gain illicit profits.

Police sealing confiscated counterfeit tiger balm

Since 2022, Tam and Hong have been the masterminds behind this counterfeiting operation. Tam was responsible for researching the compositions, while Hong purchased raw materials and packaging from unknown sources for Tam to formulate.

Either Tam or Hong would direct the employees to decant chemicals into bottles and jars, apply labels and packaging, and seal the counterfeit products.

So far, the investigative agency has determined that Tam and Hong directed the production of seven types of counterfeit Eagle Brand Medicated Oil from Singapore, totaling 69,626 bottles, with an estimated value of over VND 6 billion in genuine products.
