From July 1st, Ho Chi Minh City officially merged with two key southern localities, Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau. With this reorganization, the new Ho Chi Minh City spans an area of 6,772.59 km2, presenting numerous development opportunities, particularly in the field of logistics.

At the seminar “The Important Role of Vietnam in Connecting the Supply Chain and Global Transport System,” organized by Messe München in collaboration with Vietnam Exhibition & Fair Services Co., Ltd. (VNEES) on July 1st, Mr. Nguyen Duy Minh, Vice Chairman of Vietnam Logistics Services Enterprises Association (VLA), shared his perspective on how the expanded Ho Chi Minh City can optimize infrastructure and enhance transport efficiency, thereby attracting more international investors.

Mr. Minh cited the example of the ICD Song Than in Binh Duong, where Ho Chi Minh City previously could not fully utilize its potential, resulting in infrastructure waste. However, with the unification of the three localities, the infrastructure advantages are now maximized to serve the logistics industry.

“With synchronized planning across a wider area and more abundant land resources, Ho Chi Minh City can design the shortest transport routes, reducing costs, increasing competitiveness, and creating a strong appeal for foreign investors,” emphasized Mr. Minh.

Mr. Nguyen Duy Minh, Vice Chairman of Vietnam Logistics Services Enterprises Association (VLA), shares his insights at the seminar.

According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thach, CEO of Smart Link Logistics, while it is challenging to make precise predictions, the immediate benefit will be evident in policy synchronization, such as customs procedures and infrastructure improvements. This will create a significant competitive advantage for the logistics industry.

Experts suggest that logistics costs in Vietnam are currently higher than in Malaysia and Thailand. However, with the completion of infrastructure development, these costs will decrease, fostering intense competition not only among logistics and manufacturing companies but also among industrial parks…

Mr. Thach anticipates that Ho Chi Minh City will undergo significant changes post-merger. Therefore, businesses must proactively stay updated with new regulations to avoid costly mistakes, both in terms of expenses and time.

Meanwhile, Mr. Michael Wilton, CEO of MMI Asia, emphasized that for sustainable logistics development, digital transformation is not an option but a mandatory requirement for countries to adopt.

During the seminar, the organizers announced the upcoming exhibitions, “Transport Logistic Southeast Asia” and “Air Cargo Southeast Asia” (tlacSEA), taking place in Singapore from October 29th to 31st. These events are expected to attract over 10,000 attendees and feature more than 300 exhibitors from the logistics, maritime transport, and air cargo industries.
