There are still hundreds of Binh Dinh apricot trees left in the Tet flower market in Da Nang (Tien Son Sports Palace, Hai Chau district). Traders said that apricot trees have never been so unsold like this year. The prices have dropped 50-70% but still have not attracted customers.
The Binh Dinh apricot trees are unsold in the Tet flower market in Da Nang, traders are breaking pots and taking roots to bring back
Mr. Nguyen Huu Phuc brought 200 apricot trees to Da Nang for sale from the 21st day of the last lunar month. By noon on the 30th day of Tet, he still had 160 trees left. When he first came to the flower market, he sold each tree for prices ranging from 2 to 4 million VND. Now, the price has dropped to 1.5 million VND.
“I sell at a loss to get money for the trees, and the other expenses are considered as my own investment” – Mr. Phuc said.
Despite the significant price reductions, apricot tree stalls are still unsold and many people inquire but do not buy. Mr. Nguyen Cong Bang said that by noon on the 30th day of Tet, he still had more than 60 out of 100 apricot trees that he brought to the flower market.
According to Mr. Bang, the difficult economic situation strongly affects people’s purchasing power for flowers and ornamental trees this year.
At 1pm on the 30th day of Tet, whether selling out or not, Mr. Bang decided to leave the flower market to return to Binh Dinh and celebrate Tet with his family. The unsold apricot trees will be broken pots, the roots will be tied up, and they will be transported back to be taken care of next year.
Many other traders are facing the same situation, they have started to break pots to take the roots of apricot trees.
