Grilled snakehead fish stalls in HCMC bustling with activity on the eve of God of Wealth’s day

On the evening of February 18th (the 9th day of the Lunar New Year), the grilled snakehead fish street on Tan Ky Tan Quy street (Tan Phu district, Ho Chi Minh City) was filled with a fragrant aroma and thick smoke. Many vendors said they would stay up all night grilling tons of fish to meet the demand of customers on the Prosperity God's Day.

Tan Ky Tan Quy Street (Tan Phu District) is famous for its delicious and affordable grilled snakehead fish. On the 10th day of the first lunar month, the street is filled with the fragrant smell of dozens of fish grilling restaurants, with red-hot coal stoves, grilling each fish right on the spot to serve the needs of local people.

Grilled snakehead fish is priced at 200,000 – 250,000 VND per fish, depending on its size. It is served with noodles, rice paper, fresh vegetables, and special fish sauce. The average weight of the fish here is from 1.1 – 1.3 kg/fish, skewered by sugar cane and grilled on a charcoal stove.

The staff of Cuc Bui restaurant said that on the 10th day of the first lunar month, they will provide about 4 tons of grilled snakehead fish, reducing 1 ton compared to the same period last year due to many restaurants closing down due to difficult business conditions. “We stay up all night to grill the fish and serve customers 24/24 on the 10th day of the first lunar month,” said a representative of Cuc Bui restaurant.
