On the afternoon of February 19, information from the People’s Committee of Phong Dien district (Thua Thien Hue province) announced that residents have recently discovered a large metal object drifting ashore in Thon 10 (Dien Hoa commune, Phong Dien district).

According to the leaders of the People’s Committee of Phong Dien district, initial investigations have determined that this object is a square-shaped metal floating platform. The platform has a length and width of about 30m. The metal platform is painted green and has a diameter of about 0.5m. It is divided into 9 compartments, with metal pedestals about 1.2m high at the bottom.
According to authorities, the drifting object is classified as a Level 1 hazardous sunken asset under Decree No. 05/2017/ND-CP of the Government.
Due to its large size and weight, Phong Dien district has not yet come up with a plan to handle the object.
The People’s Committee of Phong Dien district has instructed relevant agencies to assign forces to monitor and preserve the object while awaiting further instructions from the provincial authorities.
