Burning tickets for Vietnam – Singapore flight to see Taylor Swift

The National Stadium in Singapore is expecting over 300,000 spectators for Taylor Swift's six-night concert, with many Vietnamese fans in attendance. During the concert, all direct flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Singapore have already sold out.

Taylor Swift will have 6 concerts in Singapore as part of The Eras Tour, from 2-4/3 and 7-9/3. This is the only country in Southeast Asia that will have the singer’s exclusive tour.

The National Stadium of Singapore is expected to welcome over 300,000 fans from Singapore and neighboring countries, including many from Vietnam.

On March 2nd, almost all direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Singapore were sold out. One-way ticket prices from Hanoi to the Lion City only have business class seats available, with prices up to 33 million VND on March 3rd, the cheapest price being over 7 million VND and requiring a transit flight – a flight with at least one stopover.

The prices from Vietnam to Singapore during Taylor Swift’s concert are currently high. In the past 12 months, for trips during the same period, prices ranged from 2.2 million VND to 4.5 million VND.

Klook is the official partner of The Eras Tour and offers concert ticket packages, including tickets to one of the six shows and hotel accommodation, with activities and experiences. These packages range from $542 for 4-star hotels to $4,977 for 5-star hotels.

In many Singapore travel groups, many people plan to go at the beginning of March, shocked by the high airfare. Hotels in Singapore are also experiencing high demand.

Caesar Indra, Chairman of Traveloka, said flight bookings increased six times during the ticket sales period for Taylor Swift’s concert in Singapore, with the demand mainly coming from Vietnam, Indonesia, and China.

Wall Street economists have estimated an average per capita economic impact of about $1,385 on Singapore’s economy.

Heron Lim, an economist at Moody’s Analytics, said that with Singapore’s exclusivity in Southeast Asia and limited hotel rooms, even in the less busy month of March for tourism, the RevPar (revenue per available room – PV) is expected to increase by over 50% compared to the average in March 2023.

Assuming that about 70% of the estimated 300,000 audience members are from overseas, with two people per room for the six nights of performances, Lim estimates that hotel revenue could reach $35 million.

Compared to the period from March 15-23, Edmund Ong, Managing Director of Trip.com Singapore, noted that total related bookings for Singapore have increased by 275% during Taylor Swift’s concerts.

In addition, flights to Singapore have increased by 186%, hotel bookings have increased by about 460%, and tourist attractions as well as tour bookings have skyrocketed by 2,373%.

Ong also added that the average age of people booking rooms from March 1-9 is 33, younger than the average of 37.2 during the period from March 15-23.
