This morning (2/3), Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Khac Dinh and Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha attended the ceremony to announce the Prime Minister’s decision approving the general plan for the new urban area of Cam Lam, Khanh Hoa province until 2045.

According to the approved plan, Cam Lam will become an international airport urban area, developed as a smart, innovative, national-scale and internationally interactive urban area. The planned area includes the entire administrative boundaries of Cam Lam district, with a total natural area of ​​about 54,719.4 hectares and does not include the Thuy Trieu lagoon area.

In his speech at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha praised the efforts and striving of Khanh Hoa province in planning work. Along with the urban planning of Cam Lam, the adjustment of the Nha Trang city planning is also being considered and approved on the occasion of the celebration of 100 years of construction and development of the city.

The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that the general plan for the new urban area of Cam Lam has integrated zoning, detailed planning, specialized planning with clear space and development objectives. Cam Lam has oriented very accurate and step-by-step development goals, prioritizing special policies to attract talents, forming high-tech economic ecosystems, mechanisms for training high-quality human resources.

The planning of the new urban area of Cam Lam, along with other planning, will create new space, potential and new momentum for Khanh Hoa province in general and Cam Lam district in particular to develop rapidly and sustainably based on urban economy, services. Cam Lam residents in the near future will enjoy high-quality social services.

The Deputy Prime Minister also emphasized the need to pay special attention to the organization and effective implementation of planning, and the decisive factor for success is the proactive, creative, systematic and methodical spirit.

With the characteristics of a coastal city, directly affected by climate change and rising sea levels, Deputy Prime Minister noted the development process of the new urban area of Cam Lam needs to draw lessons from the existing issues such as surface water and groundwater pollution, traffic congestion, landslides, flooding, population density management, adaptation to climate change… by a synchronized technical infrastructure system, multi-target infrastructure and appropriate soft adaptation solutions.

The Deputy Prime Minister demanded that Khanh Hoa province well carry out geological, hydrological surveys, carefully calculate the impacts of climate change, tidal surges from detailed planning, design, and construction to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of works, safety of assets and lives for people.

“Cam Lam has mountains, plains, delta areas, and wetland areas. It is a potential terrain that can be enhanced by creative hands, intelligence to create unique values ​​for Cam Lam. In his speech, Nguyen Tan Tuan – Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee – affirmed that on the basis of the approved planning announced today, Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee will urgently and seriously focus on implementation, ensuring effectiveness, complying with relevant regulations; determined to build and develop Cam Lam in accordance with the plan. From there, together with other localities, contribute to early making Khanh Hoa a centrally-run city with the development orientation of a central service and international coastal tourism city, according to the Prime Minister’s decision.

According to the just-approved general plan, the new urban area of Cam Lam includes the entire administrative boundaries of Cam Lam district with a total natural area of ​​over 54,700 ha. The goal is to develop a modern international-standard ecological airport urban area; a focal point for coastal tourism services, logistics; financial-intelligence services and global innovation; international hub for education, healthcare, research, and application of new technologies; urban area with high-quality living environment; synchronized and modern infrastructure. The estimated total investment capital demand for urban infrastructure construction is about VND 320 trillion. The estimated population scale by 2030 is about 320,000 people, including about 224,000 urban population and urbanization rate of about 70%. By 2045, the estimated population is about 770,000 people, including about 639,780 urban population and urbanization rate of about 83%.
