Long Thanh International Airport (Dong Nai province) is a national key project with a total investment of over 336,000 billion VND (equivalent to 16 billion USD, based on the exchange rate approved by the National Assembly in 2013). It will be the largest airport in our country in the future with an area of nearly 54 km2. Serving capacity up to 100 million passengers per year, equivalent to the population of Vietnam.

Long Thanh Airport, divided into 3 phases. In the first phase, the project will build a runway, passenger terminal, and related items with a capacity of 25 million passengers per year, expected to be completed in 2025. The image shows the lotus-shaped design of Long Thanh Airport.

In phase 2, Long Thanh airport will build an additional runway and terminal to meet a capacity of 50 million passengers per year, completed in 2035. The remaining items will be completed in phase 3 to achieve a capacity of 100 million passengers per year. The image shows one of the runways of Long Thanh Airport under construction.

There are currently more than 4,000 domestic and international engineers and workers, along with about 2,000 machines and equipment mobilized to serve construction and take advantage of the dry season to accelerate work progress in various items.

Currently, Long Thanh Airport is simultaneously constructing 4 major construction items, including land leveling, drainage (package 3.4), passenger terminal works (package 5.10), runway, taxiway, apron (package 4.6), and T1 and T2 connection roads (package 6.12).

Among them, package 3.4 (land leveling, drainage) has excavated more than 108,000 m3 (reaching 93.52% of the contract volume). The areas serving the construction of runways, taxiways, aprons, and the arrangement of component projects 1, 2, and 4 have completed land leveling since August 2023.

Package 4.6 (runway, taxiway, apron) has mobilized 641 people and 274 machines and equipment for construction. ACV said that the first runway of Long Thanh Airport phase one is expected to be completed before April 30, 2025. Compared to the scheduled progress at the end of 2023, the completion time of this item will be shortened by about 3 months.

Package 5.10 (passenger terminal) has excavated over 324,000 m3 of land, equivalent to 95%. 24 tower cranes operate continuously day and night to meet the transportation of equipment throughout the project area. On-site, the joint venture contractors have also mobilized 493 machinery, equipment, materials, and over 2,200 people for construction.

Long Thanh Airport project is also urgently implementing air management works including air traffic control tower and related items, radar station, radio broadcasting station; Automatic weather observation system; Wind shear alert system; Information and data connection system between aircraft operation projects; Medium-voltage power supply system for aircraft operation projects… The image shows the construction of the air traffic control tower.

It is expected that the Long Thanh Airport project will complete the entire construction part before December 2025, complete the installation of the vertical face before March 2026, parallel with the completion and installation of test operations equipment from the beginning of 2026.

The connecting roads to Long Thanh Airport such as T1 and T2 are also being urgently constructed in parallel with other items. In just 8 months, the direct routes to Long Thanh International Airport in the future have taken shape. On-site, the contractors have arranged 630 people and 196 machinery and equipment for construction.

Among them, T1 road is 3.8 km long, starting from the west gate of Long Thanh Airport connecting the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau expressway, national highway 51 and the endpoint connecting provincial road 25C. The road has a width of 85-120 m, 8 main lanes and 6 urban auxiliary lanes. T2 road is 3.5 km long, with 4 independent lanes running alongside the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau expressway. This is the connecting road from T1 to the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay expressway.
