On behalf of the high-level Vietnamese delegation, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sincerely thanks the warm and thoughtful reception from the Government and people of New Zealand during his first visit to the peaceful, civilized, beautiful, welcoming, green, clean, safe country of New Zealand.
Prime Minister Chinh affirms that Vietnam always regards and wishes to strongly promote the Strategic Partnership relationship with New Zealand. He believes that with many beautiful achievements, this visit will contribute to elevating the bilateral relationship to new heights, towards the commemoration of 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2025, for the benefit of the people of the two countries, for peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.
According to the Prime Minister, Vietnam always appreciates the precious feelings and support of New Zealand for nearly 50 years. New Zealand maintains stable ODA for Vietnam; hundreds of Vietnamese resources have been trained in New Zealand; New Zealand experts and scientists have supported Vietnam in producing high value agricultural products such as dragon fruit, avocados, lemons… Especially, most recently is the enthusiastic support and affection that the people of New Zealand have for the Vietnamese women’s football team participating in the FIFA World Cup 2023 held in New Zealand.
“We would like to thank the Government and people of New Zealand for creating favorable conditions for nearly 15,000 people, including 6,000 students and workers who are living, working, studying, and developing in beautiful New Zealand,” the Prime Minister said.
Very special talks
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that he and his New Zealand counterpart had very special and successful talks. Both sides were happy to see the good and effective development of the Vietnam – New Zealand Strategic Partnership relationship.
In the spirit of construction and cooperation, the two sides had comprehensive discussions on cooperation in all important pillars of the Strategic Partnership relationship between the two countries, including economic – trade – investment, national security and defense, agriculture, culture and people-to-people exchanges, and local connections. According to that:
First, stabilize and consolidate political trust, strategic trust, political cooperation, diplomacy, and create a stronger foundation for bilateral relations.
Both sides will promote delegation exchanges, high-level contacts, and contacts at all levels on channels and effectively implement cooperation mechanisms, including periodic contacts between the two Prime Ministers and between Ministers. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has invited and hopes to welcome Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and his wife to officially visit Vietnam soon.
Second, strengthen and expand cooperation in all important cooperation pillars of the Strategic Partnership between the two countries
, including economic – trade – investment, national security and defense, agriculture, culture and people-to-people exchanges, local connections. Accordingly:
– Enhance economic – trade – investment cooperation; strive to achieve a two-way trade turnover of USD 2 billion in 2024 and soon double two-way investment through appropriate measures, including opening markets and reducing two-way trade barriers. Vietnam welcomes investment from New Zealand in areas, especially education – training, renewable energy, expanding market for each other’s products, especially agricultural products such as litchi, avocados, bananas, cut flowers, high-tech agriculture, high-quality, seedlings, food safety management.
– Strengthening national defense – security cooperation, effectively responding to traditional and non-traditional security challenges that are increasing in the region, including transnational crime, terrorism, natural disasters, epidemics; strengthen cooperation in maintaining peace, maritime security, intelligence exchange, for peace, cooperation, development in the region and in the world.
– Expand cultural, educational, and training cooperation, promote people-to-people exchanges under appropriate forms. Vietnam desires New Zealand to increase scholarships for Vietnamese students and New Zealand universities to enhance cooperation with Vietnamese universities, and create favorable conditions for New Zealand people and businesses to work, study, and do business in Vietnam. The early resumption of direct flights will be an important driving force for expanding cooperation in these fields.
