After the upgrade of Dencun on March 13, Layer 2 Ethereum protocols have seen a significant decrease in transaction fees, up to 99%. Dencun is an upgrade focused on scalability on the Ethereum mainnet, considered one of the most important milestones since the Merge.
Starknet, a prominent Ethereum-based L2, has reduced gas fees by 99% since the upgrade. The protocol has shared a screenshot of its latest gas fees, which has reduced to $0.04 from over $6 before the Dencun upgrade.
Other L2 platforms, including Optimism, Base, and Zora OP mainnet, have also seen significant reductions in gas fees after the Dencun upgrade. The average transaction fee for Optimism has decreased to $0.05, $0.064 on Base, $0.5 on Arbitrum, and $0.16 on zkSync Era. Within 24 hours of the upgrade, Optimism and L2 chains built on Optimism’s technology, such as Base, have seen the most significant decrease in gas fees.
One of the most widely used L2 platforms, Arbitrum One, plans to release the ArbOS upgrade to introduce blob support for the Arbitrum Rollup chain after today.
