According to the plan, after becoming directly under the Central Government, Hue City will have an area of 4,947.10 km2 and a population of 1,380,000; with 9 administrative units: 2 districts, 3 towns and 4 rural districts; 131 units at commune level (73 communes, 51 wards and 7 townships (22 communes less and 12 wards more). Hue City will have 9 administrative units directly under the city:
1- Phu Xuan District (district north of Huong River), with 127.00 km2 of natural area, a population of 229,649 with 13 wards.
2- Thuan Hoa District (district south of Huong River), with 139.41 km2 of natural area, a population of 313,800 with 19 wards.
3- Huong Tra town has 392.57 km2 of natural area, a population of 79,843 with 9 administrative units at commune level, including 06 wards and 03 communes.
4- Huong Thuy town has 427.48 km2 of natural area, a population of 107,468 with 08 administrative units at commune level, including 07 wards and 01 commune.
5- Phong Dien town, with 945.66 km2 of natural area, a population of 121,554 with 12 administrative units at commune level, including 6 wards and 06 communes.
6- Phu Loc district has 1,368.23 km2 of natural area, a population of 213,803 with 27 administrative units at commune level, including 23 communes and 04 townships (Lang Co, Phu Loc, Loc Son and Khe Tre).
7- Phu Vang district has 235.31 km2 of natural area, a population of 151,842 with 14 administrative units at commune level, including 13 communes and 01 township.
8- Quang Dien district has 162.89 km2 of natural area, a population of 108,094 with 11 administrative units at commune level, including 10 communes and 01 township.
9- A Luoi district has 1,148.49 km2 of natural area, a population of 54,436 with 18 administrative units at commune level, including 17 communes and 01 township.
Accordingly, Thua Thien Hue province, after becoming a city directly under the Central Government with the new name of Hue City, still has 9 administrative units (at district level) directly under the city. The old Hue City will be divided into 2 districts: Phu Xuan and Thuan Hoa. Phong Dien district will become Phong Dien town. Nam Dong district will be merged into Phu Loc district.
Decision 1745/QD-TTg approving the Planning for Thua Thien Hue province for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, has just been passed, marking an important turning point in the development process of the locality, affirming the important position of the province in the trend of international integration, while conforming to the guidelines of the Party and the Government. This also creates an opportunity for the province to develop urban areas in a sustainable direction, based on its strengths in culture, heritage, ecology, landscape, environment, and information technology.
General objectives: by 2025, Thua Thien Hue will become a city directly under the Central Government; by 2030, it will be a heritage city typical of Vietnam; one of the large, distinctive centers of the Southeast Asian region in culture, tourism, and specialized healthcare; one of the major national centers in science and technology, multi-disciplinary, multi-sectoral, high-quality education and training; a strong center of marine economy in the country; national defense and security are firmly ensured; material and spiritual life of people reach a high level.
Thua Thien Hue sets a specific target and indicator, by 2030, the average economic growth rate (GRDP) will be 9 – 10%/year, in which: Agriculture, forestry and fishery will increase by 3.5 – 4%/year; Industrial construction by 10 -11%/year; Services by 11.5 – 12.5%/year.
