The Ministry of Transport has approved in principle the reception of container vessels with a deadweight of up to 214,121 DWT at Cai Mep International Container Terminal, operated by Cai Mep International Terminal Company Limited (CMIT).

The Vietnam Maritime Administration is assigned to guide and supervise the investor in implementing the next steps, ensuring compliance with regulations. They are also responsible for approving the plan to ensure maritime safety for container vessels with a deadweight of up to 214,121 DWT entering and exiting the port. Additionally, the Vung Tau Maritime Port Authority is instructed to grant permits for container vessels with a deadweight of up to 214,121 DWT to enter and exit the port only when absolute safety, maritime security, and environmental protection are assured.

The port is permitted to receive vessels with a deadweight of up to 214,121 DWT provided that it complies with relevant conditions regarding the existing maritime channel, natural conditions, operational requirements, and other related aspects to ensure the safety of structures, maritime safety, maritime security, fire prevention and control, and environmental protection.

CMIT is responsible for adhering to the directives of the Department of Investment Management and the guidance of the Vietnam Maritime Administration, Vung Tau Maritime Port Authority, and other relevant agencies during the process of receiving vessels at the port. They are also accountable for the efficiency of investment and any incidents that may occur during vessel reception, without requesting the Ministry of Transport to invest in or upgrade public maritime infrastructure related to this policy.
