On the evening of July 3, in Hanoi, the Association for Liaison with Overseas Vietnamese (ALOV) organized a ceremony to launch the Vietnam-Japan Trade Promotion Center and the Vietnam-Japan Business Club.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Nguyen Phu Binh, Chairman of the Association for Liaison with Overseas Vietnamese, said that over 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Vietnam-Japan relations have rapidly and firmly developed with trust, comprehensiveness, and efficiency, bringing practical benefits to the people of both countries.
The relationship between the two countries has flourished in all fields, from central to local levels, especially in the economic sphere. During this process, the Vietnamese community in Japan has grown rapidly and now numbers nearly 600,000 people, making it the second-largest overseas Vietnamese community in the world, only after the US.
According to Ambassador Nguyen Phu Binh, the Vietnamese community in Japan is young and dynamic, living, studying, and working in one of the most developed countries in the world. They are present in almost all regions of Japan, and their growth coincides with the peak of Vietnam-Japan relations. This community has become a significant resource, contributing effectively to the development of our country and playing a crucial role in the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations, aligning with the perspectives of our Party and state.
With the desire to harness the strengths of our compatriots abroad, including the Vietnamese community in Japan, for the development of our country, ALOV organized the launch of the Vietnam-Japan Trade Promotion Center (VJP) and the Vietnam-Japan Business Club. The center aims to facilitate connections and promote trade between businesses and localities of the two countries.
At the event, Mr. Ngo Trinh Ha, Consul General of Vietnam in Osaka, Japan, also expressed his hope that VJP and the Vietnam-Japan Business Club would actively promote trade, economic, and people-to-people exchanges, achieving significant results in these areas.
Statistics show that trade between Vietnam and Japan reached 21.7 billion USD in the first six months of the year, with Vietnam enjoying a trade surplus of 0.9 billion USD with Japan. In terms of investment, Japan invested 979 million USD in Vietnam in the first half of 2024.
During the program, VJP signed a memorandum of understanding with the Vietnam-Japan Economic Cooperation Promotion Association and the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Association. As per the agreement, the parties will provide information and cooperation needs, facilitate access to capital, and organize meetings and exchanges between Vietnamese businesses in Japan and those seeking growth opportunities, ultimately bringing direct benefits to Vietnamese enterprises.
