Spy shots of the third-generation Honda Brio sedan, known as the Brio Amaze, have surfaced during its testing phase in India. According to Indian media, this model will be equipped with a 1.2L or 1.5L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder gasoline engine. The launch of this vehicle is expected to take place in late 2024 or early 2025.

After the success of the Elevate, many predicted that the Honda Brio would also receive an upgrade. Previously, there were rumors that the upgraded version of this model would be released in 2024. However, with the recent spy shots, it can be confirmed that the new-gen Honda Brio is indeed in the works.

While Honda is known for keeping its prototype vehicles under wraps, India is a market with many watchful eyes. As a result, we can speculate on what to expect from the new Honda Brio.

This model is said to be based on a modified platform used for the City and Elevate models. This strategy not only saves costs but also optimizes the production process by allowing multiple models to be produced on the same platform.

Despite the heavy camouflage on the test vehicle, we can discern a new design for the rear end, featuring horizontally stacked taillights. Additionally, the new model includes minor adjustments such as adjustable headrests in the rear seats, which are currently absent in the existing model.

While the overall shape of the new Honda Brio remains similar to the second-generation model on the market, some design details may be refined. This will become clearer as the test vehicle sheds more of its camouflage.

Interestingly, the test vehicle was spotted with emission testing equipment, suggesting the possibility of CNG (compressed natural gas) engine options or an entirely new engine system.

In Vietnam, the Honda Brio was previously officially distributed, competing against the likes of the Toyota Wigo, Kia Morning, and Hyundai Grand i10. However, it withdrew from the market in 2022 due to failing to meet the Euro 5 emission standards set by the government. If the predictions of the Indian media are accurate, the new engine on the third-generation Honda Brio could meet stricter standards, raising hopes for its re-entry into the Vietnamese market, despite the low probability due to the current SUV trend.

According to India’s Rush Lane, this model is unlikely to feature the 1.0L turbo engine found in global versions. Instead, consumers can expect the 1.2L or 1.5L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine, similar to the City and Elevate models. Transmission options will include both manual and CVT versions.

In terms of design, the third-generation Brio sedan may draw inspiration from Honda’s current global models. The interior could feature a new dashboard, a larger and more modern infotainment screen, rear air conditioning, leather seat options, and more.

While the official launch date has not been announced, the new Honda Brio will undoubtedly be a formidable contender in the A-segment when it arrives.
