Jackfruit is a popular tropical fruit that has captured the hearts of many. Its unique appeal extends beyond its sweet, juicy flesh and numerous segments to its impressive size, as evident in the viral stories and curiosity surrounding this remarkable fruit.
You may have come across gigantic jackfruits on social media, almost as tall as an adult human. Believe it or not, this is not a rare occurrence but a specific variety of jackfruit grown in Vietnam.
This particular variety, known as the “super-long” jackfruit, was imported from Malaysia and has found a favorable home in Vietnam due to its suitability to the local soil and climate. It is rapidly gaining popularity among farmers.
What sets this variety apart is the sheer size of its fruit, measuring up to 1 meter in length and weighing between 25 and 40 kilograms. It takes two or three people to carry just one of these massive fruits! And occasionally, you’ll find a tree bearing even larger “mutant” jackfruits.
The “super-long” jackfruit is a favorite among consumers due to its low seed and fiber content, resulting in large, thick segments with a delightful crunch and exquisite flavor. With its high economic value, this tree starts bearing fruit after just two to three years, producing an impressive average yield of over 200 kilograms per year.
This variety is already making its mark in Vietnam, with local farmers embracing its cultivation. The future looks promising for even more “super-giant” jackfruits in the country.
