Unlocking Countless Opportunities

The Long Thanh International Airport, with its first phase completion and operation set for 2026, marks a significant milestone for Dong Nai province’s development due to its scale and the potential and advantages that this “mega airport” offers. The airport’s commencement will serve as a new driving force, presenting breakthrough opportunities for the province’s economic model.

Dong Nai province has planned for Long Thanh Airport City to be a breakthrough development area. In the future, Long Thanh will be one of the key urban areas in the dynamic southern region and the central sub-region of the Southeast region. It will also be a city closely linked to the Long Thanh International Airport, becoming the country’s gateway to the world, a center for logistics services supporting the airport, and a hub for multi-sector industries and high-tech industries in the Southeast region.

Mr. Duong Minh Dung, Secretary of the Long Thanh Party Committee, believes that Long Thanh holds great potential for developing modern trade and services, especially with the operation of the Long Thanh Airport project. In the coming time, the district will focus on planning and implementing trade and service plans, strengthening coordination with departments to attract investment, and accelerating the realization of plans and the development of infrastructure projects in trade and services.

Recognizing that the Long Thanh Airport will be a new growth pole for the province, Dong Nai has already started implementing a series of projects to seize the development potential since the airport project’s commencement. Among these, infrastructure projects connecting to the airport play a crucial role as they are the main transport routes linking localities within the province to the airport, thereby spreading the development momentum.

“The Long Thanh International Airport project is expected to create a modern air transport hub in the region.”

According to the plan, four transport infrastructure projects will be invested in, constructed, upgraded, and expanded to connect to the Long Thanh Airport. These include the Provincial Road 770B project (running through Dinh Quan, Thong Nhat, Cam My, Long Thanh, and Long Khanh City), the Provincial Road 769 upgrade and expansion project (Thong Nhat and Long Thanh), the Provincial Road 773 upgrade and expansion project (Xuan Loc, Cam My, and Long Khanh City), and the Nhon Trach Inter-Port Road project. In the Southeast Region plan, Dong Nai is also positioned to become a transport hub and enjoys many development advantages in the coming time.

The construction of the passenger terminal at the Long Thanh International Airport project is ahead of schedule

According to Mr. Nguyen Hong Linh, Secretary of the Dong Nai Party Committee, when the Long Thanh International Airport is put into operation, the province must ensure that related projects and works are completed by June 2026 or earlier to take full advantage of the airport’s potential and strengths.

“Developing a system of expressways and logistics is a significant issue today. Dong Nai must strive to form a regional urban area outside the Long Thanh International Airport to maximize services and bring the highest value,” emphasized Mr. Nguyen Hong Linh.

A Region in Motion

Mr. Lai Xuan Thanh, Chairman of the Board of Members of the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV, the investor of the component project 3), affirmed that there is a solid basis to ensure the Long Thanh International Airport project will be completed as scheduled. Currently, the project’s main packages are on track, with the two most critical works, the passenger terminal, and the runway, ahead of schedule.

“With the current construction progress, ACV expects to complete the project before August 31, 2026. On September 2, 2026, the Long Thanh International Airport will welcome its first commercial flight,” said Mr. Lai Xuan Thanh.

According to the plan, to connect the Long Thanh International Airport with localities, especially those in the Southeast region, a series of expressways, belt roads, and railways will be invested in and constructed. Many expressways and belt roads connecting the airport with localities have already been invested in and are under construction, such as Phan Thiet – Dau Giay Expressway, Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway, Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway, and Belt Road 3 in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to Mr. Lai Xuan Thanh, to serve the transportation needs of the Long Thanh International Airport, two connecting roads, T1 and T2, are being expedited. It is expected that the construction of T1 will be completed by November 2025, while T2 will be finished by the end of this year and put into use.

In early August 2024, during a progress check and working session with relevant units, National Assembly Chair Tran Thanh Man affirmed that the first phase of the Long Thanh International Airport is an extremely important project that has received great attention and direction from the Party and State in the past time. The project will promote socio-economic development and ensure national defense and security in Dong Nai province, the key economic region of the South, and the whole country.

The National Assembly Chair requested that the investor and contractors regularly update the progress of the project’s items to synchronize the Long Thanh International Airport project with inter-provincial and inter-regional transport infrastructure projects.

“Once the first phase of the Long Thanh International Airport is completed, it must be connected to Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces. Therefore, investing in transport infrastructure projects connecting to Long Thanh Airport must mobilize all resources from central and local capital and other investment forms. We need to act immediately and synchronously. We cannot let the airport operate without access roads, as it will be ineffective,” emphasized National Assembly Chair Tran Thanh Man.

According to Mr. Lai Xuan Thanh, to meet the transportation needs of the Long Thanh International Airport’s first phase when it becomes operational, especially the connection to Ho Chi Minh City, relevant agencies need to promptly implement the project to expand the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway.
