Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) stated that after Storm No. 3, its hydroelectric plants in the northern region remained in normal operation. The water flow into the reservoirs has increased rapidly due to the storm, leading the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and the provincial Steering Committees for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control to instruct several hydroelectric reservoirs to open their floodgates for regulation.
According to EVN, as of 8:00 AM on September 9th, with the rapid increase in water flow into the reservoirs, a total of 29 floodgates were opened across eight hydroelectric plants. Specifically, Tuyen Quang opened four gates, Lai Chau opened one, Ban Chat opened four, Huoi Quang opened four, Hoa Binh opened two, Thac Ba opened two, Trung Son opened six, and Ban Ve opened all six of its floodgates.
Regarding reservoir operations, EVN reported that the water flow into the Lai Chau reservoir was 1,768 cubic meters per second, with a total discharge of 1,563 cubic meters per second. Ban Chat’s reservoir received a water flow of 1,388 cubic meters per second and discharged a total of 1,413.9 cubic meters per second. Huoi Quang’s reservoir recorded a water flow of 1,908.2 cubic meters per second, with a total discharge of 1,902.9 cubic meters per second. The Son La reservoir received 4,965 cubic meters per second and discharged 1,432 cubic meters per second. The Hoa Binh reservoir received 4,924 cubic meters per second and discharged 5,462 cubic meters per second, while the Thac Ba reservoir received 2,563 cubic meters per second and discharged 2,282.8 cubic meters per second.
Notably, Tuyen Quang is currently experiencing the highest water flow in the country, with an inflow of 6,952 cubic meters per second and a discharge of 3,098.9 cubic meters per second.
In the North Central region, the Trung Son hydroelectric plant is discharging at a rate of 1,668 cubic meters per second, equivalent to the water flow into the reservoir. Meanwhile, the Ban Ve plant is discharging at 512 cubic meters per second, with an inflow of 469 cubic meters per second.
Regarding the restoration efforts after Storm No. 3, EVN reported that the 500kV power grid has restored seven out of nine affected lines. The 220kV grid has restored 27 out of 40 affected lines, and the 110kV grid has restored 77 out of 102 affected lines.
Power Restoration for 4.2 Million Customers in the North
According to preliminary information from the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC), out of more than 5.7 million customers affected by power outages due to Storm Yagi, power supply has been restored to 4.2 million customers as of this morning, September 9th, achieving a restoration rate of 73.7% for affected customers.
In addition to the mobilization of approximately 4,000 officers and employees for post-storm recovery and power restoration, EVNNPC also deployed a total of 38 emergency teams, comprising 413 officers and technicians from 13 units, to support the repair of severely affected power grids in Quang Ninh and Hai Phong provinces on September 8th.
In Hanoi, according to the Hanoi Power Corporation, approximately 290,000 customers were affected by Storm Yagi, mostly in the outlying districts. As of now, almost all customers who experienced power interruptions due to the storm have had their electricity supply restored.
Restoring Power to 4.8 Million Customers
As of the morning of September 11, units of the Northern Power Corporation have successfully restored power to 4.8 million customers out of the total of over 5.9 million affected by Typhoon No. 3.
The Lights of Hai Phong: Restoring Power to the City
The Hai Phong Power Company has mobilized over 1,000 of its best and brightest engineers and technicians from across the city’s district power companies and high-voltage electrical testing units. With a comprehensive fault-zone inspection strategy, they successfully restored power to 100% of their customers.
Power Restoration Efforts Intensify After Storm No. 3
The Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) is directing its Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) and all relevant units to mobilize their forces and address the electrical grid issues in areas affected by the third storm.
