Manulife, Prudential, Chubb, and MB Ageas Insurers Have Not Yet Received Any Claims From Yagi Typhoon and Flooding

The six life insurance companies, including AIA and Daichi, have estimated that the payouts for claims and support due to Typhoon Yagi and the floods in Northern Vietnam amount to nearly VND 10 billion. Meanwhile, Manulife, Prudential, Chubb, MB Ageas, and Hanwha are assessing the situation, but have not yet received any damage reports from their customers.

As of late afternoon on September 10, six life insurance companies reported losses involving their clients who had purchased life insurance policies and were affected by the damage caused by Typhoon No. 3 and floods in the northern provinces and cities. According to updates from these companies, there were 15 casualties, and the initial estimated payout and support amount to approximately VND 97.2 billion.

Daiichi Life Insurance reported six victims who passed away in a landslide in Yen Bai province. The estimated payout for this incident is VND 2.7 billion.

As of September 9, 2024, AIA Vietnam confirmed the deaths of five clients due to Typhoon Yagi, with four in Hai Duong and one in Quang Ninh. The total insurance benefits for these five clients at AIA Vietnam are approximately VND 6.5 billion.

According to updated data, 11 insurance companies, including Manulife, Prudential, Chubb, Shin Han, Phu Hung, MAP, FWD, FWDA, MB Ageas, Hanwha, and Fubon, have conducted searches but have not received any reports of losses from their clients regarding the aforementioned events.

As of late afternoon on September 10, 2024, preliminary reports from several non-life insurance companies with significant market shares in health, technical property, and motor vehicle insurance indicated that 1,754 loss incidents had been recorded due to Typhoon Yagi.

In the technical property insurance segment, the company recorded 684 loss incidents: Bao Viet with 220, VBI with 150, PVI with 134, Bao Minh with 44, ABIC with 29, and PJICO with 107.

Regarding motor vehicle insurance, the companies recorded 1,070 loss incidents: Bao Viet with 315, VBI with 91, PTI with 273, and PJICO with 219.

A representative from BSH (Bao Minh Sai Gon – Ha Noi) shared that as of the early afternoon of September 9, the company had recorded nearly 100 loss incidents in technical property and marine insurance and 250 loss incidents in motor vehicle insurance. In the personal accident insurance segment, they recorded six missing persons and one fatality.

As of September 10, BIC also recorded nearly 500 loss incidents, including 16 in marine insurance, over 250 in technical property insurance, and more than 180 in motor vehicle insurance. The total estimated payout is nearly VND 200 billion.

By late afternoon on September 9, 2024, VietinBank Insurance had recorded over 400 loss incidents in property, marine, and motor vehicle insurance, with an estimated payout of hundreds of billions of dong.
