Social media recently shared a screenshot of a message from a manager at a Korean fried chicken restaurant, instructing staff to set aside leftover food for later use.

In response to this information, the Korean restaurant chain Papas’ Chicken has confirmed that they have verified the issue with their personnel and relevant departments.

According to the verification, the branch manager, Ms. B.T.T., was the one who sent the messages to the staff, as seen in the leaked online conversation.

Ms. B.T.T. explained that she misunderstood the information from the management regarding cost control,” said Mr. Le Tuan Phong, Deputy General Director of Topfood Vietnam Co., Ltd., the owner of the Papas’ Chicken chain.

“Instead of controlling the employees’ operations, Ms. B.T.T. misunderstood and instructed her staff to wash and REUSE the pickled radish from previous customers.”

According to the restaurant chain, the manager, Ms. B.T.T., assured that she had only communicated this to the staff yesterday, on September 11th, and that there had been no previous cases.

The chain also assured that this had never happened in any other branch.

Papas’ Chicken Hoang Van Thu opened on September 1, 2024. Pickled radish is a complimentary side dish. According to the leaked messages from the manager, Ms. B.T.T., to the staff, this dish costs VND 200,000 per bag, and using a lot of it would increase costs.

After the verification, the Board of Directors of Papas’ Chicken decided to fire the store manager and temporarily suspend the operation of the Hoang Van Thu branch after 12 days of operation to review all goods, personnel, and operating procedures and training.

We commit to accompanying those who have dined at the Hoang Van Thu branch and will take full responsibility for any health-related issues that may arise,” said the Board of Directors.

Papas’ Chicken officially entered Vietnam in 2006 and is a Korean restaurant chain owned by Topfood Vietnam Co., Ltd., specializing in traditional Korean dishes. Their signature dish is Korean-style fried chicken, which is said to use spices imported directly from Korea.
