In its latest announcement, The Gioi Di Dong (coded MWG) has pledged VND 5 billion in support of the provinces hardest hit by the recent natural disaster and facing economic difficulties: Cao Bang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Lang Son, Tuyen Quang, and Phu Tho.

MWG stated that the company is offering this support through the local Fatherland Front Committee to contribute to post-disaster reconstruction and help the affected communities restore their health, repair their homes, and purchase essential items to return to their normal lives as soon as possible.

According to The Gioi Di Dong, Super Typhoon Yagi, which recently made landfall in northern Vietnam, has caused severe losses of life and property, along with landslides, flash floods, and inundation in many localities, significantly impacting the economy, infrastructure, and livelihoods of the people. Now more than ever, rescue and recovery efforts are in dire need of unity and timely support from authorities, businesses, and the community.

Prior to this announcement, Mr. Doan Van Hieu Em, a member of the Board of Directors of The Gioi Di Dong Joint Stock Company (coded MWG), shared on his personal Facebook page that The Gioi Di Dong is working urgently with suppliers to prepare an order of 10,000 rice cookers to be donated to families in need in the severely affected areas, helping them rebuild their lives as soon as possible after the storm and floods.

As a leading multi-sector retail corporation in Vietnam, MWG has always prioritized operating with integrity and humanity wherever it has a presence. With a network of well-known brands such as The Gioi Di Dong, Dien May Xanh, Bach Hoa Xanh, An Khang, AvaKids, and TopZone spanning across provinces, MWG has over a hundred stores that have suffered direct damage from the storm and floods and are currently working on recovery.

Mr. Hieu Em even revealed that the number of The Gioi Di Dong/Dien May Xanh (TGDĐ/ĐMX) stores located in the storm and flood-affected areas accounts for approximately 3-5% of their total store count.

Mr. Hieu Em shared that, from September 4th until now, the number of affected stores has ranged from a few dozen to over a hundred, depending on the daily developments of the storm and flood situation. Consequently, their revenue has also been impacted. The day with the highest number of affected stores was September 7th, when Typhoon Yagi made landfall in Hanoi and northern provinces.

“We continuously monitor news updates, coordinate with local authorities, and follow their guidance. We also closely observe the situation at each store to develop proactive plans to minimize the impact of natural disasters. We have prepared scenarios to restore operations at each affected store as quickly as possible so that we can reopen and serve our customers again right after the storm and floods,” Mr. Hieu Em said.

“Additionally, we are ensuring sufficient stock of essential items such as power banks, rechargeable lamps, gas stoves, and household appliances to meet the needs of the affected communities. We are also implementing support programs to help them replace damaged consumer goods during this challenging time,” he added.
