The latest updates on the power grid restoration efforts in the northern provinces and cities severely affected by storms and floods, as provided by the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), indicate significant progress. With the diligent work of units under the Northern Power Corporation and the supportive efforts of the Central Power Corporation and Hanoi Power Corporation, 1,640 out of 1,678 affected medium-voltage lines have been restored as of 5 pm on September 17. Concurrently, power supply has been reinstated for over 6.03 million customers out of the approximately 6.1 million impacted by the storms and floods, achieving a restoration rate of nearly 99%.

As of September 17, the power restoration work in the affected areas is considered substantially complete. In Quang Ninh Province, power supply has been restored to cities and districts, serving over 85% of the load.

The Northern Power units are continuing their concerted efforts, mobilizing personnel, equipment, and supplies to address the aftermath of the natural disaster. They are committed to restoring power to the remaining affected customers as soon as possible while ensuring safety protocols.

Many substations remain submerged, hindering the restoration of power supply to customers.

Regarding the status of the high-voltage grid, as of September 17, all 14 incidents on the 500kV grid have been resolved. For the 220kV grid, 10 substation incidents and 38 out of 40 line incidents have been addressed. The remaining two 220 kV line incidents are expected to be resolved by September 18. On the 110kV grid, 101 out of 104 substation incidents and 186 out of 190 line incidents have been restored.

According to the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), the recently inaugurated 500kV line from Quang Trach to Pho Noi, commissioned on August 29, 2024, remained unaffected by Storm No. 3 Yagi. The 500 kV line incidents caused by Yagi were mainly concentrated in the provinces/cities of Quang Ninh and Hai Phong.

Concerning the operation of hydroelectric reservoirs, EVN reported that inflows to the reservoirs have gradually decreased. As of 10:00 am on September 17, the following hydroelectric reservoirs: Tuyen Quang, Lai Chau, Ban Chat, Huoi Quang, Son La, and Hoa Binh, have closed all spillway gates upon the directive of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The following reservoirs continue to discharge water for regulation as of 5:00 pm on September 17: Thac Ba (2 gates), Trung Son (3 gates), and Ban Ve (2 gates).
