According to the Bac Ninh Provincial Police, in relation to the case of a collapsed ‘bau’ [a form of gambling debt chain] involving a sum of over 40 billion VND in Vong Nguyet Village, Tam Giang Commune, Yen Phong District, which caused a stir in public opinion since early May, hundreds of families are at risk of losing a large sum of money.
Despite the verification process being extremely challenging, as all documents and original books were destroyed, the Yen Phong District Police assigned experienced investigators to promptly verify and investigate the case.
Initially, the Yen Phong District Police identified that Ngo Thi Lan had established dozens of ‘bau’ chains in Vong Nguyet Village, Tam Giang Commune. Among them, the police investigated and clarified three chains formed in 2022.

Each chain involved 25-30 players. However, only 3-5 people actually received the money, and for the remaining months, Ngo Thi Lan pretended to be other members of the chain to collect the money, amounting to nearly 4.8 billion VND. All the money was used for Lan’s personal expenses.
According to the Bac Ninh Provincial Police, the collapsed ‘bau’ in Vong Nguyet Village, Tam Giang Commune, is not the first case in Bac Ninh, but it is the first time that the ‘bau’ leader has been criminally prosecuted. The case is being further investigated and strictly handled by the Investigation Police Agency of Bac Ninh Provincial Police in accordance with the law.
