The Philippines boasts a high potential for wind power development with its abundant wind resources located in the northern and central regions, such as Batanes and Babuyan, as well as northern and central Luzon. Wind speeds in these locations range from 6.4 meters per second (m/s) to 10.1 m/s. With its favorable conditions for wind power projects, the Philippines has attracted significant interest from renewable energy developers.

The Department of Energy of the Philippines has set an ambitious target to nearly quadruple the contribution of wind power to the country’s total power generation from 3.1% to nearly 12% in the period between 2024 and 2030. To achieve this goal, the Philippine government has introduced several policies and mechanisms, including Feed-in Tariff (FIT), the Philippine Energy Plan 2020-2040, and the Philippine Renewable Energy Roadmap 2017-2040, among others.

The Kalayann 2 onshore wind farm project is owned by Laguna Wind Energy Corporation, a joint venture between The Blue Circle and Acciona. The project is located in Paete and Kalayann, Laguna Province, Philippines. With a capacity of 100.8 MW and an expected electricity production of approximately 300 million kWh per year, the wind farm will feature 17 Goldwind wind turbines, each with a capacity of 6 MW, a tower height of 110 meters, and a rotor diameter of 165 meters. IPC E&C Philippines Corp has been appointed as the installation contractor and crane equipment supplier for the entire project, which is expected to reach commercial operation (COD) in March 2026.

The successful signing of the agreement for the installation and supply of crane equipment for the Kalayann 2 onshore wind farm project marks a significant milestone. It underscores the capabilities of IPC Group as a leading EPC contractor for renewable energy projects in Vietnam, and their expansion into the international market and offshore wind projects aligns with their future business strategy.

According to experts from the Vietnam Energy Magazine, IPC Group’s success in securing the contract for wind turbine installation in the demanding and competitive Philippine market is a proud moment for both the company and the Vietnamese energy sector as a whole. Previously, only European companies were considered capable of executing renewable energy projects in the Philippines.

In the Vietnamese market, IPC Group has served as the EPC contractor for over 1.5 GW of renewable energy projects, including more than 700 MW of wind farms, 100 MW of rooftop solar, and 700 MW of ground-mounted solar power plants.
