According to the official portal of Quang Ninh province, in early 2025, Ha Long city will play host to the ‘Art for Climate – Ha Long Bay 2025’ festival, with the participation of over 200 European billionaires. The billionaires are expected to arrive in Ha Long on mega yachts.

Per the Quang Ninh Tourism Promotion Center, the event is projected to attract around 80,000 attendees, encompassing a diverse range of participants, including policymakers, local administrators, artists, environmental activists, investors, and students.

Slated to take place from January 13 to 19, 2025, the ‘Art for Climate – Ha Long Bay 2025’ festival has garnered significant international attention. It is a special decision to choose Ha Long Bay as the venue instead of a Middle Eastern country as initially planned.

Arsuprema, the French organizer of the event, selected Ha Long Bay not only for its natural beauty but also to convey a message of heritage conservation and environmental protection.

Ha Long Bay receives approximately 4,000 to 6,000 visitors daily, 90% of whom are international tourists. Despite the impact of Storm No. 3, most activities in the bay have resumed normal operations.

In the first nine months of 2024, Ha Long city welcomed 9.2 million visitors (a 33% increase compared to the same period in 2023). International visitors reached 2.13 million (more than double the number in the previous year). Total tourism revenue is estimated at VND 20,300 billion (a 34% increase compared to the same period in 2023).

Economic Developments in Quang Ninh Province

On October 4th, the 56th conference of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee was held to discuss the province’s performance and results in the first nine months of the year and outline key tasks for the fourth quarter of 2024. The conference reported a GRDP growth rate of 8.02% for the province during the aforementioned period. While this figure is lower than the growth rate in the same period last year and the projected growth scenario, it reflects the dedicated efforts of the entire political system amid numerous challenges, especially the severe impact of Storm No. 3.

The manufacturing industry was the primary driver of growth, increasing by 20.45%, which is 4.05 percentage points higher than the same period last year. The service sector is estimated to have grown by 13.55%, an increase of 1.76 percentage points compared to the previous year.

Total tourist arrivals in Quang Ninh in the first nine months reached over 15.6 million, a 20% increase year-on-year, including approximately 2.59 million international visitors. Total tourism revenue was estimated at VND 36,856 billion, a 39% increase compared to the same period last year.

Retail sales and consumption service revenue increased by an estimated 12.97% year-on-year. Revenue from transportation, warehousing, and supporting transportation services rose by 27.4% compared to the same period last year. Export turnover of enterprises in the province reached USD 2,570 million, a 13.8% increase year-on-year.

State budget revenue reached VND 40,479 billion, equivalent to 73% of the estimate, with domestic revenue estimated at VND 26,434 billion, or 62% of the estimate and 92% of the same period last year. In the first nine months of 2024, 1,342 new enterprises were established, a 7.6% increase compared to the previous year.

The province created additional jobs for 23,500 laborers, an increase of 1,800 compared to the same period last year, achieving 78.3% of the annual plan. Total social security expenditure was estimated at VND 1,435 billion, a 38.4% increase year-on-year.

For the whole of 2024, Quang Ninh province aims to maintain a double-digit GRDP growth rate, with state budget revenue not falling below VND 55,600 billion. The province targets to attract USD 3 billion in FDI and receive over 19 million tourists this year.

During the conference, the province outlined various tasks to achieve the set goals. Notably, the Quang Ninh Party Committee emphasized the need to implement comprehensive and resolute measures to support the people and businesses in recovering from the aftermath of Storm No. 3.
