**Highways and Honor: The Story of Son Hai Group’s Commitment to Quality**
According to a report by Tuoi Tre newspaper on November 1st, Mr. Nguyen Viet Hai, Chairman of Son Hai Group, confirmed that he had filed a criminal complaint with the Thanh Hoa Provincial Police and the Nghi Son Town Police, requesting an investigation into a suspected act of vandalism on the Nghi Son-Dien Chau Expressway.
The complaint was accompanied by photos and videos as evidence, captured on October 29th. They show a group of people in a truck with a crane traveling along the expressway and destroying all nine warranty signs of Son Hai Group’s 10-year warranty commitment.
According to Son Hai Group, the total damage amounted to hundreds of millions of dong. The group’s chairman, Mr. Hai, stated that they had signed a 10-year warranty contract with the Ministry of Transport. This warranty ensures the best traveling experience for the people and saves the state a lot of money on road maintenance for a decade.
The warranty signs along the road are a public commitment by Son Hai Group to the people. They allow direct supervision of the quality of the group’s work over the next ten years.
Previously, in August 2024, Mr. Hai shared with Tuoi Tre newspaper, “It’s not a coincidence that Son Hai Group chose to warranty our construction projects for up to 10 years, while the regulations only require two. A longer warranty reduces our profits. But we are willing to sacrifice corporate gains for the greater benefit of the community. This is the culture we have always strived for at Son Hai Group, and it applies to all our projects.”
The Nghi Son-Dien Chau Expressway, a part of the North-South Expressway, is 50 km long and passes through two provinces: Thanh Hoa and Nghe An. Its total investment amounts to VND 7,293 billion. The expressway was opened to traffic on September 1, 2023, initially with four lanes and a design speed of 80 km/h. In the future, it will be expanded to six lanes, with a wider road and a higher design speed of 100-120 km/h.
This is not the first incident on the Nghi Son-Dien Chau Expressway. In October 2023, just over a month after its opening, chemical streaks appeared on the road surface, indicating possible vandalism. Son Hai Group had filed a report with the authorities to investigate this issue as well.
Since 2014, Son Hai Group has been known for its bold warranty commitments. Initially, they offered a 5-year warranty on the roads they constructed, while other companies only provided 1-2 years. In late 2022, they took it a step further by requesting a 10-year warranty for the sections of the North-South Expressway they built.
Specifically, Son Hai Group committed to a warranty that included a smooth road surface, free from rutting, cracking, or bumps, even at junctions with bridges. This warranty would remain valid regardless of heavy traffic, excess load, or adverse weather conditions. The people would oversee this warranty through publicly displayed signs along the roads constructed by Son Hai Group.
