The construction of Tan Son Nhat Airport’s T3 terminal, with a total investment of nearly VND 11,000 billion, is expected to be completed by April 30, 2025, two months ahead of schedule.
Upon completion, the terminal will be the largest in the country, serving 20 million passengers annually and bringing the total capacity of Tan Son Nhat International Airport to 50 million passengers per year.
According to the project management unit, all major structural components of the T3 terminal have been completed. Contractors are expediting the construction of architectural details and other remaining work.
The most critical component of the project, the 7,500-ton steel roof structure, was completed in September, 120 days ahead of schedule. Additionally, the installation of the first layer of aluminum roofing for the passenger terminal has been completed, covering 42,000 square meters.
The passenger waiting area, check-in counters, and security and screening areas have all had their structural frameworks finished.
The construction of the viaduct system is expected to be completed by the end of December, with a planned opening in February 2025.
Workers are expediting the installation of glass walls on the passenger terminal floors, aiming to complete this phase by the end of this year.
The contractors’ workload will be divided into smaller portions, with progress assessed every 15 days. If a contractor fails to meet the specified output, they will be required to make up for it in the following 15-day period to ensure the overall goals are achieved.
Over 90% of this work has been completed on the B2 levels of the commercial building, as well as the B1 and first floors of the passenger terminal.
Contractors are actively installing equipment and machinery for various systems, including air conditioning ductwork, fire protection, and water supply and drainage.
The terminal will feature 90 traditional airline check-in counters, 20 automated bag drop kiosks, 42 check-in kiosks, 27 aircraft boarding gates (including 13 jet bridges and 14 bus gates), 6 outbound and 10 inbound baggage claim islands, and 25 security checkpoints.
Over 2,500 engineers and construction workers are involved in the project, working on multiple fronts to accelerate the construction process.
In parallel with the structural construction, equipment and machinery are being imported for installation according to the schedule of each component. Major systems such as air conditioning ductwork, fire protection, and water supply and drainage have been installed in over 90% of the B2 levels of the commercial building and the B1 and first floors of the passenger terminal.
The T3 terminal is expected to be completed two months ahead of schedule. Once operational, it will help alleviate congestion at the existing domestic terminal of Tan Son Nhat Airport.
