Mr. Nguyen Danh Thang, Chairman of the Board of Members and representative of Vietnam Feature Film Investment and Development JSC (Vietnam Feature Film Studio), met with 20 artists, officials, and employees to address lingering issues at the studio on November 12th.

During the meeting, Mr. Thang assured that he would improve his conduct and management style, acknowledging the unique nature of the art-focused enterprise.

Mr. Nguyen Danh Thang, Chairman of Vietnam Feature Film Investment and Development JSC, announced the company’s decision to resume business operations.

The company representative also added that they are unsure when the strategic investor’s capital withdrawal procedures will be finalized due to the lack of a legal framework.

“After years of waiting, the authorities have not provided a plan for the strategic investor to withdraw capital. Meanwhile, the company must continue its operations and pay annual land rent to the state. Therefore, we have decided to resume business activities,” Mr. Thang informed Tien Phong.

Previously, the Vietnam Feature Film Studio fell into a state of disrepair after a prolonged period of inactivity.

The artists in attendance expressed their desire to practice their craft, contribute to the arts, and work for a company with a rich history that was once a leader in the country’s film industry.

During the meeting, 18 out of 20 employees requested that the company resume their insurance payments, starting from their current entitlement level. They also asked for support for those whose salaries and insurance had been cut, proposing two months’ salary per year as compensation, with the amount distributed in multiple installments over a one-year period.

The existence of the Vietnam Feature Film Studio is intertwined with revolutionary and artistic cinema.

The employees also proposed that the company guarantee a minimum of 12 months’ salary for the workers, with adjustments made after this period or according to the company’s actual situation. They further requested that the company outline a development plan for the studio, with a minimum timeline of five years.

Two out of the 20 people requested that the company reimburse their salaries, insurance, and other benefits for the period when the company was unable to provide work and they had their salaries and insurance cut.

Any agreements between the company and the employees must be witnessed by a third party, namely the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. The company representative agreed to resume insurance policies for the employees if they consented and stated that support measures would be considered once the company resumed operations and generated revenue.

However, the employees’ request for two months’ salary per year while the company was not producing films and they were not working was deemed unreasonable. As a result, no agreement was reached during this meeting.
